FROM MULTICULTURALISM TO INTEGRATION
This book is key to the debates surrounding the achievement of Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE), a crucial aspect of SDG16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. It examines the role of Muslim women activists in the implementation of ethno-religious minority policies in the UK. It presents a comprehensive analysis of Muslim womens engagement with political and governance processes over the years, especially the execution of PVE policies in the aftermath of the 7/7 bombings in the UK. It studies the extent to which the government has been successful in its policy of involving Muslim women in governing contexts, by referring to changes that these women have brought about as part of the governments consultative forums and meetings. Drawing on evidence based on documentary analysis and in-depth elite interviews, the author highlights the positive role of non-elected Muslim women in the wider debate on countering extremism and radicalisation.
An important contribution to the study of minority policies in the UK, the book will be useful for students and researchers of security studies, public policy, minority studies, politics, multiculturalism, terrorism, race and ethnic studies and sociology.

This book evolved from my PhD thesis that was completed at the University of Nottingham, UK in 2016. This honour conferred on me would not have been possible without the blessings of Allah, the Almighty whose divine support encompassed me throughout this journey and made it possible for me to overcome all hurdles in my way. I dedicate this book to the fond and loving memories of my parents (M.Rafi Qureshi and Fahmida Begum) who left for their heavenly abode, but their blessings I feel within me and is ever luminance beacon light to guide my destiny. For the successful completion of this book that bears my name, I owe a debt of gratitude to the unconditional and unwavering support of my family, especially my sister, Raheela Qureshi, my brother Adnan Ahmad Qureshi and sister-in-law, Rabia Adnan, and my nephews, Abdullah, Momin and Wali, whose love and rock-solid support made this extraordinarily difficult task possible. I would like to thank my supervisors, Professor Jan Meyer Sahling, Prof. Anja Neundorf and Professor Vivien Lowndes at the Department of Politics and International Relations at the Nottingham University, UK for their guidance, outstanding academic support and valuable advice that gave my research direction. They helped me cope with the intricacies and complications of the topic. Their scholarly support, wide academic experience and command of the subject made many difficult aspects easier for me to understand. It is really an honour for me to be a student of such learned academics.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to my colleagues in the School of Politics and IR who stood by me during the most testing and challenging time of my life and enabled me to overcome all the problems that I encountered. There is no doubt that their kindness and generosity made this difficult journey a less painful experience. I am extremely grateful to my friends, Samira Shakeel and Aniqa Masood, whose friendship has been a constant source of strength. I would also like to thank my cousin Arifa Mazher Iqbal, and my nephew Nauman Durrani, for providing me with their untiring and unwavering support to accomplish this difficult task; I could not have even contemplated this project without their support.
Last but not least, I would like to extend my gratitude to the most supportive management of the University of Management and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan and the respected faculty members of the universitys Department of Political Science and International Relations for providing me a conducive working environment to complete this book.
