USI in collaboration with Christ University is publishing the first book titled India and its Emerging Foreign Policy Challenges, a collection of articles written by Senior Research Scholars and few select articles written by young interns. This institution has been active in providing internship programmes to graduate/post graduate students coming from across the country. USI is well aware that todays youth, while enterprising and academically orientated, unfortunately lack a medium to express their views. Hence the institution has taken the initiative to encourage the students to pursue research on contemporary issues related to India, and has now made the effort publish their work. USI conducted a month-long internship programme where the students were acquainted with contemporary issues on National/International strategic affairs. Furthermore, they were also given an introduction to research methodology to provide them with the tools required to effectively conduct and pursue research in a disciplined manner. On the basis of their individual topics, the students were assigned to subject experts who provided them with guidance and insight and honed their research skills. This book is the culmination of the collaborative effort put by research scholars and by some of the students, their guides and our team at USI, to pursue novel modalities, and bring fresh research perspectives on current issues.
This is just the beginning and I am sure that the young interns will benefit from this exposure and this publication will help them in their future research careers. This book is the first step that has been made by the students in their pursuit of knowledge and serious research work. Since research is an ongoing process of learning, unlearning and relearning, starting so young will give them time to sharpen and hone their skills with age and experience. I am sure they will continue their journey down their various individual paths and be successful wherever they go from here. We at USI hope that we have been successful in generating interest among the students and helped them in developing the requisite skills to continue their academic pursuits. I wish them all the best and hope that in the future, they continue down this path and find themselves paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse academic environment.

Foreword
As a growing power, Indias relationship with the external world is an important matter to study. This book covers various aspects of Indias relationships as well as emerging geopolitical scenarios which invariably receive heightened attention among scholars and policy analysts. It is a compilation of scholarly works focusing on different strategic issues of Indias concern which include maritime security, geo-economics, ethnic conflict, climate change, cyber security and so on. It is, indeed, a great effort by the Christ University and the United Service Institution of India to bring out a book collecting chapters from both young and emerging scholars and seasoned practitioners together to analyse the issues of Indias foreign policy. I congratulate all the contributors for their endeavor to complete this project. I hope this book will help a better understanding in the foreign policy analysis of India.
