Sometimes a little thing, like laughing about the same matter, makes us realize that despite apparent cultural differences, there is something we have in common that unites us in this very moment. It is important to be reminded of these two sides of the cultural coin, in an era in which societies become increasingly diverse and we become more interconnected around the globein a time in which recent sociopolitical developments suggest that cultural differences divide us. This is when identifying a common ground becomes more important than ever in the pursuit of rapprochement.

So, how different are we really? And what exactly do we have in common? Crosscultural psychology aims to respond to these questions. Even though it is a relatively new branch of psychology, it has already demonstrated the important insights that can be gained from a more contextualized understanding of the human mind and behavior. There is still a long way to go for psychology to become truly culturally inclusive and it is crucial to be aware of the Western bias in our research.
