COVID-19

We have re-checked every business in this book before publication to ensure that it is still open after the COVID-19 outbreak. However, the economic and social impacts of COVID-19 will continue to be felt long after the outbreak has been contained, and many businesses, services and events referenced in this guide may experience ongoing restrictions. Some businesses may be temporarily closed, have changed their opening hours and services, or require bookings; some unfortunately could have closed permanently. We suggest you check with venues before visiting for the latest information.

Welcome to Tuscany

Ive been tramping around Tuscany for decades now, and experiencing the wildly diverse region doesnt get old. I love the punky urban mix of Renaissance masterpieces and street art with attitude. I love the earthy, mist-dipped landscapes that mirror each season with such perfection. My hearts sings each time I mooch Florences handsome, monument-littered streets and piazzas or meet friends for coffee, cocktails and wine tastings with shared platters of lardo di colonnata and creamy buffalo-milk burrata. Need I go on?

RENAISSANCE REVELRY

The Renaissance, an artistic movement of glorious rebirth, defines the regional capital and its world-class art-and- architecture portfolio. But it also makes itself felt in Tuscanys rich legacy of craftsmanship, its honeypot of hidden-gem villages, its remote valleys. The Renaissance is the very essence of Tuscany. Revel in it.

Begin your Renaissance journey in its birthplace: Florence. The Uffizi (pictured) safeguards the worlds finest collection of art from this period and the historic centre is littered with Renaissance sculptures and architecture. Soulful frescoes by Fra Angelico at Museo di San Marco evoke the humanist spirit of the Renaissance.

Study the vision of Hell shared by mere mortals during the Renaissance at Camposanto, Pisas walled cemetery. Wall frescoes (detail pictured) showing powerful graphic images of the damned being roasted alive on spits et al by 14th-century painter Buonamico Buffalmacco are unsettling and striking in equal measure.
