Gracias a la psicologa del aprendizaje hace aos que sabemos la importancia que tienen las imgenes en la retencin y aprendizaje de trminos. Saba que si ve una imagen y, automticamente, relaciona una palabra con ella, el trmino queda registrado mucho ms rpidamente en la memoria que si solo leyera la palabra escrita? Por lo tanto, si al aprender un idioma extranjero se trata no solo de consultar el vocabulario que se desconoce sino de entenderlo y de memorizarlo, las imgenes favorecen un aprendizaje mucho ms rpido y eficaz. Todo esto tiene razones muy sencillas:

Las imgenes tienen un efecto ms rpido y directo que el simple texto. Desde la edad ms temprana pensamos en imgenes, somos capaces de descifrarlas, interpretarlas y memorizarlas intuitivamente. Si imagen y palabra quedan vinculadas, forman una unidad que nuestro cerebro procesa y almacena con gran eficacia.

Las imgenes facilitan y fomentan la comprensin. Las imgenes transmiten contextos y nos proporcionan una informacin ms clara que el mero texto.

Las imgenes tienen una gran carga emocional. Despiertan nuestro inters, aumentan nuestra motivacin y arraigan en la mente mucho ms fcilmente que el texto.

Las imgenes nos alegran siempre. Las imgenes nos proporcionan diversin mientras aprendemos all donde solo nos veramos desalentados por un texto extenso, as que, automticamente, centramos nuestra atencin durante un periodo de tiempo ms prolongado.

Visto, entendido y memorizado, as de fcil puede resultar el aprendizaje visual. Convnzase usted mismo!

IMAGES ACTIVATE THE MEMORY BUT HOW?

Dear reader,

For many years educational psychologists have encouraged the use of images in language study. Perhaps this is something you have experienced yourselfif you see a word coupled with an image, your memory is more likely to be activated than if you simply encounter the written word on its own. So if your goal is to understand and memorize vocabulary as well as to simply look it up, combining words with images is an effective way of ensuring greater levels of success. This is due to a few simple reasons:

Images affect us more quickly and more directly than text alone. As small children we think in images and are able to interpret and absorb them intuitively. When these pictures are linked to words, they form a unit that the mind is able to process and store efficiently.

Images support comprehension. They provide us with a context and deliver much more information than words alone.

Images speak to us on an emotional level. They capture our interest, increase our motivation, and lodge themselves in our memory in a way that pure text fails to.

Images are fun. While blocks of text may deter us, pictures keep the learning process light and easyand that keeps us going longer.
