This Vox Super-Mini Medical Spanish and English Dictionary is aimed at professionals in the field of healthcare who in the course of their work come into contact with speakers of Spanish, but it will also prove enormously useful to those users who, having Spanish as their native tongue, need to obtain an accurate English translation for terms from the fields of medicine and health in general.

This Dictionary, with a detailed English-Spanish / Spanish-English bilingual glossary, aims to fill a long-felt gap in Spanish-language medical lexicography: an area where mere approximation or similarity is insufficient, where scientific and terminological precision are de rigueur. The Dictionary was compiled by a wide-ranging team of medical professionals so that not only all specialist fields might be adequately covered, but also nursing, diagnosis and therapeutics. In the first section of the dictionary, the English-Spanish glossary, there are 6,522 headwords and 5,042 subheadwords, while in the second part, the Spanish-English glossary, there are 6,204 headwords and 5,092 subheadwords. All of which adds up to a total of 22,860 references and makes this Dictionary a complete yet portable resource for health care professionals. In both the subheadwords and in the translations in both languages, we have chosen neither to abbreviate the headword nor substitute it with any special symbol. We have done this in the interests of clarity and to help the user to find the answer to his queries as rapidly as possible.

To distinguish them from main headwords, subheadwords appear in italics and in a smaller typeface; this will help the user to orient himself more easily. In this way, the often extensive blocks of subheadwords may be readily identified. This Vox Super-Mini Medical Spanish and English Dictionary also contains a Medical Spanish Phrasebook that will prove invaluable for the production of both written and spoken messages in Spanish. El Vox Super-Mini Medical Spanish and English Dictionary est destinado a profesionales del mbito de la salud que por su trabajo tienen relacin con personas de origen y habla hispana. Del mismo modo, su contenido puede ser de gran utilidad para todos aquellos usuarios que poseyendo el espaol como lengua materna, tienen la necesidad de obtener una traduccin precisa y rigurosa al ingls de los trminos del entorno mdico y de la salud. Es pues este Diccionario un detallado glosario bilinge ingls-espaol / espaol-ingls que pretende cubrir una importante laguna en el mbito lxico-mdico en lengua espaola, un rea donde no cabe una aproximacin por similitud o semejanza, sino que requiere del mximo rigor cientfico y terminolgico.

En la elaboracin del contenido que aqu se presenta ha trabajado un extenso equipo de profesionales en activo de la medicina para poder abarcar todas las diferentes especialidades, adems de la terminologa propia del mbito de la enfermera, auxiliara de clnica, diagnosis y teraputica. En la primera parte del diccionario, ingls-espaol, se presentan 6,522 entradas principales y 5,042 subentradas; mientras que en la segunda parte, espaol-ingls, hay 6,204 entradas y 5,092 subentradas. Todo ello suma un total de 22,860 registros, lo que hace de este diccionario una herramienta completa y manejable para los profesionales de la salud. En la correlacin alfabtica de las voces que conforman el diccionario se ha optado por la presentacin por extenso de las entradas, evitando en ambos idiomas el uso de elementos de abreviacin o sustitucin, todo ello con la idea de facilitar al mximo la consulta del diccionario y la rpida localizacin de las dudas del usuario. Para marcar las subentradas se ha empleado la tipografa cursiva, adems de un cuerpo de letra menor, lo que facilita saber si estamos ante una voz principal o ante su conjunto, a veces extenso, de subentradas o acepciones. El Vox Super-Mini Medical Spanish and English Dictionary se completa con una Fraseologa mdica espaola muy til para elaborar mensajes hablados o escritos en espaol.
