In this phrasebook, the Spanish has been written in a system of imitated pronunciation so that it can be read as though it were English, bearing in mind the notes on pronunciation given here:
Letters given in bold type indicate the part of the word to be stressed. As i and u are always pronounced ee and oo in Spanish, pronunciation has not been given for all words containing these letters unless they present other problems for the learner. Thus Mara is pronounced maree-a and ftbol is footbol .
There are two verbs that translate to be ser and estar depending on whether the verb is describing a permanent or temporary state. For example, soy ingls I am English ; estoy cansado I am tired .
