Aims and Scope

The series Green Chemistry and Sustainable Technology aims to present cutting-edge research and important advances in green chemistry, green chemical engineering and sustainable industrial technology. The scope of coverage includes (but is not limited to):
  • Environmentally benign chemical synthesis and processes (green catalysis, green solvents and reagents, atom-economy synthetic methods etc.)

  • Green chemicals and energy produced from renewable resources (biomass, carbon dioxide etc.)

  • Novel materials and technologies for energy production and storage (bio-fuels and bioenergies, hydrogen, fuel cells, solar cells, lithium-ion batteries etc.)

  • Green chemical engineering processes (process integration, materials diversity, energy saving, waste minimization, efficient separation processes etc.)

  • Green technologies for environmental sustainability (carbon dioxide capture, waste and harmful chemicals treatment, pollution prevention, environmental redemption etc.)

The series Green Chemistry and Sustainable Technology is intended to provide an accessible reference resource for postgraduate students, academic researchers and industrial professionals who are interested in green chemistry and technologies for sustainable development.

Preface

The purpose of this first book onCommercial Applications of Ionic Liquidsis to provide an overview of known processes and products using ionic liquids. There are 57 known commercial or pilot-scale applications using ionic liquids. Based on conversations with the authors, there are several applications that are maintained as trade secrets or are confidential and the actual number of applications is more likely greater than 100. A brief history of the field is included along with detailed discussions of several processes and products using ionic liquids.

The editor, Dr. Shiflett, was Technical Fellow in DuPont Central Research and Development (CR&D) located at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Shiflett retired from the DuPont Company in September of 2016 and joined the faculty in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Kansas to continue his teaching and research in the field of ionic liquids.

A man with encyclopaedia in his head

Ah, but a mans reach should exceed his grasp, Or whats a heaven for?

  • Robert Browning (18121889) Andrea del Sarto

Sometimes he spent hours together in the great libraries of Paris, those catacombs of departed authors, rummaging among their hoards of dusty and obsolete works in quest of food for his unhealthy appetite. He was, in a manner, a literary ghoul, feeding in the charnel-house of decayed literature.
