Victor Williams has had more than his share of lifes disappointments. He was placed in a foster home after losing his mother at age twelve. Seven months later he ran away, opting for a life of homelessness on the rough streets of Houston rather than suffer at the hands of his sadistically violent and abusive foster parents.

Victor received a blessing when he met Reverend David Williams, the pastor of the largest church in the city. He considers Victor as the answer to his prayers for a son. With help from his brother, a case manager with childrens services, David adopted Victor within only days of meeting him. Davids intense love and devotion rivals that of even the most loving fathers, biological or otherwise.

Victor entered High School as the New Guy with the added challenge of readjusting to the school environment and meeting all new friends. #1 nationally ranked, varsity quarterback, Robert Taylor extended his sincere offer of friendship and they bonded instantly, soon becoming best friends.

Life becomes complicated when Victor realizes he is in love with Robert. Victor becomes trapped in a virtual hell, bound by a secret love more beautiful than any hes ever known, yet he cant celebrate it, as it could possibly jeopardize the best friendship hes ever had. A desperate suicide attempt serves as the catalyst to a shocking revelation between the two friends that offers the key to both of their freedom.

After experiencing a cycle of physically and emotionally abusive relationships, the ugly side of drug abuse and addiction, the intense grief of death, and all the emotional and physical scars to show for it, Victor tries to make sense of it all. Refusing to abandon the one thing he can count on, his faith, he finds love in an unexpected place. In a moment of clarity as he walks down the aisle, he finally understands the path his life has taken and accepts it all with no regrets.

Prologue

________________________________________

Victor

As I steadiedmyself at the altar, my beautiful bride looked at me adoringly as her fatherwalked her down the aisle toward me. Meanwhile, my mind traveled back in time, revisiting my journey to that point.

I thoughtabout a nightmare that plagued me for years. Over time the mans face became ablur, but his actions Ill never forget.

I love you,do you love me?

Yes. Idrespond in fear.

Then kiss meand show me you love me. He would reply as he positioned himself behind me,preparing to violate my innocence, as hed done many times before. I wouldeventually come to recognize the faceless man in my dreams again. I also got achance to confront him and make him answer for his transgressions against me.

A survivor inthe true sense of the word, Ive experienced every type of abuse there is andoften wondered if there was something about me that warranted my mistreatment.I once longed for a relationship with my absentee father. My mom alwaysreferred to him as R.C., which was about the extent of my knowledge of him. Shenever showed me many pictures of him, but she always said I was the very imageof him. It was from R.C. that I got my gray eyes, fair skin, and curly hair. Iwas simply told that my father died when I was 3. I was never told how or why,but just that hed died. I would later receive a shocking revelation that thelegend of his death was false.

On my twelfthbirthday, my mother had a nervous breakdown and was placed in a mentalfacility. With no father and no family to take me in, I was made a ward of thestate and placed in foster care. I remained faithful in the prayer that mymother would get better and come to get me. My world crumbled 6 months laterwhen I was regretfully informed that my mom had died of a heart attack. Thecause of death was an accidental overdose of sedatives administered by thehospital.

Beingpermanently placed into foster care was the beginning of a living nightmare. Myfoster parents were very displeased with my lack of interest in their idea ofmasculine things like sports, cars, etc. They called me fag as if it were myname. They would often refer to me as she and that girl to humiliate me infront of their friends and total strangers. Beatings and verbal abuse wereeveryday occurrences. After one incident too many, I ran away, deciding it wassafer to fend for myself on the street. I refused to go to yet another abusivehome, where Id be considered just another check to someone.

Chapter One

________________________________________

Victor

The fosterhome was hell. The first day turned into one month. That month turned intoseven more. When my mom died, so did my hope. My nightmare became an instantreality. I couldnt live with the evil monsters disguised as my foster parentsone moment longer. If I did, I was sure they would eventually maim or kill me.So I packed everything I could into a large duffle bag, gathered all of mymoney and as much of theirs as I could find, and made my exit from hell, alsoknown as the Montgomery residence.

With $1086.00to my name, I figured Id be okay for a little while. I didnt feel an ounce ofremorse or guilt about taking it either. I considered it a reparation payment, for my seven months of service as their personal punching bag.

I secured apart-time job at a hardware store by lying about my age. It was plausible sinceI was already six feet tall and sprouting facial hair by then. All strangersactivated my skepticism and I was paranoid around the storeowner at first, buthe turned out to be a very nice man. I slept wherever I could, at a shelter, atschool, at the park, it didnt really matter as long as I felt pretty safe.

After beingout of school for about a week I registered myself at another school. Aftercrafting a believable story that my mother had recently died and that I wasliving with an aunt who worked nights they let me register and take the formshome to be signed without a problem. Cautious about Child Protective Services,I kept a low profile and developed an elaborate series of lies to logicallyexplain away just about anything that I was asked about my personal life.

EverySunday when Id walk to a nearby park, Id pass a huge church and always stopto listen to the choir. One day en route to the park, I heard the choir singingand stopped to listen as usual. A force drew me closer and before I knew it, Iwas inside the church sitting on the back pew. A few people looked at mecuriously, but for the most part everyone was wrapped up in the service. Ididnt own a suit, but I was still nicely dressed in a royal blue,long-sleeved, cotton shirt, beige pants, and dark brown loafers.
