Praise for Golden Dreg Army
The drama and social divisions are the real heart of Golden Dreg Army, Enlisted. The allusions to a massive worldquake and the futuristic tech are intriguing, but the brutal war and the toll it exacts are where the real tension and excitement arise." (Enlisted)Indies Today
"A thrilling YA adventure, and a worrisome prophecy for the future. Peppered with creative details that make this dystopic future feel three-dimensional and all too possible, the story is gripping from the start. The writing is strong, while the dynamic loyalties of the protagonists make it a challenge to stop reading." (Enlisted)

Chapter OneStone
I t feels like Ill never see Deja again. Maybe I shouldve told her everything when she was a prisoner at my Golden camp. I shouldve done more than let her go. I shouldve held onto her too if that was possible.
I lie in my own blood holding my gut where that girl, I think Deja called her Riley, stabbed me. The wooden tents flapping canvas wall, where the three prisoners cut a hole to escape, has me seeing spots. Riley threw the knife in my gut with the intent to kill, Im positive. Maybe Im dying. The look in her eyes, I still cant get out of my head. Its something Ill never forget. The look that said Riley wanted me to die is almost as bad as the heat crawling through my stomach from my wound.
I feel myself tiring, my body is giving up on me. Why no one has come into the tent to check on me, to change shifts, even Martina, my war buddy, is beside me. I decide to yell as loud as I can for as long as I can but soon, I cant take it anymore and my eyes close. I dont know how long Im out, but there is nothing on the other side. No pain, no flashbacks, no people to greet me. Its just an empty space devoid of color.
Someone forces me to wake. My eyes fly open, and I gulp back something hard and dry. A bearded soldier leans over me shaking my shoulders, Where did they go soldier?
I raise my head to look around the tent to find Martina and a bearded solider looking down at me. One of them bro-broke free, I clear my throat, still stammering, and-and we struggled, and he, he knocked me to the ground hard and then got another prisoner free, and they tag-teamed me and...
Slow down, Stone. Martinas voice wakes me up. Her incredible green eyes are full of concern. She is so pretty. Like an angel.
I gasp with every pull in of breath my wound is widening, but it also feels like my vision constricts. The tent closes in on me, the two people inside it shrink the space even more.
The bearded soldier shakes one of my shoulders, Focus, he says.
We heard screaming. What happened? Martina tells me.
Better yet, what happened to the prisoners? Maybe we can still catch them, the bearded solider says.
My eyes flutter closed again. Im fainting and out of sorts. Bio... I take two deep breaths. Need biohealer.
Martina rips open my uniform and the life saving device is pressed against my skin and in one moment to the next, I feel like two different people. Coming back from the dead isnt at all what I expected. It makes me greedy and for once I appreciate air for keeping me alive. My skin tightens, but mostly it tingles as the contents of the biohealer stitches me back together.
