This book is dedicated to you.
You are capable of amazing things,
and the world needs you.
Discontent is the first necessity of progress.
T HOMAS E DISON
I think I know you.
You are talentedand ambitious, willing to work as hard as you need to achieve success. You are in the growth phase of your career, and feel an urgency to continue to advance. You play to win, but dont measure success simply by money or job title; you believe there is something more to life, a calling to become the best you can and have a positive impact on others through your work, family, and community.
You are also frustrated. You are working hard, but your career is not moving as fast as you want. Promotions come a little too slowly, and, when you look around, there is always someone who seems less qualified with more responsibility. Sometimes, reading or hearing about the success of others makes you jealously question your own trajectory. Despite your early career successes, you often question your choice of job, employer, maybe even your profession.
You are sometimes stymied at work by other people who are not working as hard as you or who arent as invested as you are in creating success. You spend too much of your life in meetings that bore you to death, or trying to clear your email in-box of all the junk that gets in the way of your ability to do your job well. Youre stressed. Youre tired. You want to exercise and eat well, but you are working so hard that you always seem to run out of time or energy.
