INTRODUCTION

The Power of Leading through Relationship was written at the request of two internationallyknown organizational executive boards that Harobed, Inc. led in life-changing leadership developmental initiatives. As a result of a successful 20-year career in executive leadership and management within Fortune 500 sales companies, the principles of identifying, creating, and sustaining successful leadership were methodically developed. As these organizations, and now hundreds of committed individuals, have sought transformation and excellence in their leadership performance and life relationships, they have aligned themselves with an innovative, yet powerful, belief system that falls in line with The Architecture of Leadership.

The Architecture of Leadership model introduced in Chapter 1 looks at leadership as an integral part of all our lives not just the lives of obvious leaders. This book, the first in a series, focuses on the mindset and practical skills we need to use the power of relationships to bring value to every community we touch whether as business people, volunteers or family members.

All communities formal or informal are built on relationships. As we develop our skills in this area, we will have: more impact on all aspects of our lives, more influence on those who follow us, and a greater ability to transform our world through our leadership, words, power and authority.

About the Author

Deborah Jackson, a native of New Orleans, is a transformative speaker, coach and trainer. With over 20 years of experience as an executive leader in the corporate arena, she has been sought after by organizations and individuals for her management, coaching and speaking expertise. Jacksons ability to build top performance teams has aided companies in organizational development both internally and externally.

Her drive, competitive spirit, inspiration, insight and wisdom have helped her to create top-performing quality sales leaders, professionals, managers and executives across the country. Deborahs corporate career is complemented by a highly successful 20-year competitive tennis career that took her from playing #1 with Division 1 status to the satellite tour.

This aspect of Deborahs career helped her to develop discipline, commitment, and courage, which have blessed her with a power and authority to give to others in ways that not only move them emotionally, but also work to transform their lives.

Deborah has worked for Johnson & Johnson and Merck & Company, two of the largest corporations in the world. Through her experiences in leadership, as well as coaching and training hundreds of professionals, she has developed a reputation of being committed to the people she works with. She has a strong commitment to remain honest with her clients and unwavering in her purpose to help them stay on track. This also involves helping them reach their potential and function at their most optimal level.

Fueled by a desire for entrepreneurship, Jackson took her 20 years of professional learning and launched her own company, Harobed, Inc. (Deborah spelled backwards) in 2011. Her focus remains on sharing all that she has been given and has experienced, which helps her train individuals as well as organizations to build quality leaders.

Its an idea, a model, and a movement all born out of over 30 years of seeing and living leadership in every facet of life and realizing that the person I have become and the person still evolving is truly a sum total of all the experiences I have had in the many areas of my life personal, professional and spiritual.

The Architecture of Leadership encourages us to redesign how we see leadership and to anchor ourselves with core building blocks and principles that flow from internal work rather than solely external efforts. The result is lasting improvement that can change lives and careers.

The Architecture of Leadership transcends a one-dimensional mindset where leadership means power and control ; it challenges us to instead look at leadership from a five-dimensional perspective. It also challenges us to see leadership as a legacy for generations to come versus merely a short-term solution to build profit.

It challenges everyday leaders mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles , as well as executives of organizations of all sizes, types and places, from Fortune 500s to small businesses to non-profit organizations to begin to see leadership as an art form, a gift and skill that, when nurtured and developed properly, has a positive and compelling impact on others that inspires them to "get up and do something while simultaneously producing sustainable results and tangible profits.

Leadership through a balanced life.

This model describes every area of our lives in which we either currently execute leadership or will at some point execute leadership. All of these areas are interconnected and this particular book will focus on how we execute leadership through relationships .

My belief in the importance of having a well-balanced view on life relationship, intellect, knowledge, self is based on years of experience. Individuals who were committed to their personal and professional development, as well as to their teams and organizations, sought me out to help them clarify their goals and remove obstacles holding them back from top results. For the most part, they needed to accomplish this while at or approaching critical turning points in their lives and businesses. I found that my methods enabled them to obtain optimum and sustainable results.

My belief in the importance of taking a balanced view is shared by other leadership experts, including Stewart D. Friedman, founder of the Wharton Schools Work/Life Integration Project. Friedman writes, I have met many people who feel unfulfilled, overwhelmed, or stagnant because they are forsaking performance in one or more aspects of their lives. They arent bringing their leadership abilities to bear in all of lifes domains work, home, community and self.

I work with people and organizations that find themselves at significant crossroads and are looking for transformations that will have a major impact on their lives, professions and relationships. I am the why and how catalyst for thousands.

My goal is to help others perform, operate, and live in an improved manner, to move them to action, and to enable them to maximize performance and results personally, professionally and spiritually.
