We recognize the completion of the test bank for this edition by Brian Carpenter, PhD, CFE.
We appreciate the support of Audimation (IDEA) and Tableau for the ability to embed their software (through their academic partnerships) into the end-of-chapter assignments and provide screen shots for step-by-step tutorials for the solutions to the end-of-chapter assignments.
Special thanks to Dr. Joseph T. Wells and the ACFE for the use of its material throughout this textbook. Dr. Wells has been a trailblazer in the field of fraud. Professionals in this field have a better understanding of fraud detection and deterrence because of his contributions. Through the creation of a vibrant antifraud organization, his professional writings, and his dedication to antifraud education, Dr. Wells had brought illumination and insight on this topic to many. For all he has done, we are grateful.
Preface
Whats New in the Second Edition
We are excited to present the Second edition for Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination and appreciate the hard work of our associates at Wiley who helped make this possible.
What is most exciting are the changes weve incorporated.
- Each chapter was carefully edited and rewritten to incorporate the most recent best practices from the practitioner community.
- Weve added a new chapter, Antifraud and Compliance Efforts: Ethics, Prevention, and Deterrence to highlight the benefits and strategies relevant to preventing and deterring bad acts (see ).
- We included extensive examples in each chapter to connect the theory to real-world FAFE tools and techniques.
- In , we provided case illustrations and calculations for lost profits, business valuation, and individual damages (a.k.a. economic damages) examples. These cases walk readers step-by-step through evidentiary details to draw defensible conclusions.
- The with comprehensive consultant/expert witness reports that are available to readers as supplemental material in the appendices. The valuation sample report, for example, is approximately fifty pages in length.
- The end-of-chapter student assignments have been completely rebuilt and dramatically expanded. Each chapter has the following:
- Two critical thinking exercises
- Short answer review questions
- Multiple choice questions
- A fraud casebook that provides easy-to-access references for online research of high-profile fraud cases. The reading assignments are followed by short answer questions grounded in relevant case facts and discussion questions for class and writing assignments.
