Acknowledgments
In 1999, Career Press published the first edition of Electronic Resumes & Online Networking. Now here we are, approaching the year 2001, and the second edition is hot off the press. This is the first Internet-related career book where the technical tips and techniques remain constant despite the continuous change in online technology today. What really changes are the creative applications of those technical tips and techniques, making this second edition far better than the first.
On the surface, online technology can appear cold and intimidating. But underneath, it is teeming with people just like you and me. And it is all of these people I want to thank for making this second edition what it is.
I want to thank the hundreds of visitors to my Web site, Rebecca Smith's eResumes & Resources ( www.eResumes.com ), for their invaluable anecdotes.
I want to thank Joyce Lain Kennedy, who "discovered" me in a small corner of cyberspace. Her encouragement and guidance were just what I needed to transfer my thoughts into meaningful words, and this book is the result.
I would like to acknowledge the support and editorship of Trish McDermott and Helene Das at Desktop Effects. Their testing and editing of the tutorials in this book (a mammoth task in itself); verifying URLs to ensure they existed at the time of publication; and producing and staging the screen captures were invaluable to me.
Thanks especially to the entire staff at Career Press: Ron Fry, Publisher; Mike Gaffney, for his marketing expertise; Robert Brink, who operated behind the scenes to make this book special; and Stacey Farkas, who kept this entire project on schedule.
An extra special thanks to Stephen Brockelman, Partner, Brockelman & Friends ( www.brockelman.com ). Our association as colleagues and friends has given me new meaning to what effective online communication and career networking is really all about.
And thank you David Fugate, my agent at Waterside Productions, who believed in me and this project from the very beginning.
