I dedicate this book to my astounding better half, Ms. Sohini Sengupta, who has been the bedrock of love and support in a tumultuous 2020. She motivated me every day to complete this book so that I can share my learnings, experiences, and ideas with the rest of humanity. The year 2020 is one that history will remember as a turning point due to the COVID-19 crisis; 2020 will also be remembered as the main pivot point when the world is reimagined with AI and digital technologies. This book will hopefully play a small part in helping people traverse that journey.
Sudhi
I dedicate this book to my parents with love and gratitude. You are the greatest factor contributing to my pursuit of knowledge and giving.
Khaled
Acknowledgments
WRITING THIS BOOK HAS been an exhilarating experience. The world is going through an important and interesting transition in which AI and digital technologies are redefining how we live and how we work. This book intends to help business executives, policymakers, technology leaders, and academia reimagine the new world. This journey would not have been possible without the contribution of many.
We would first like to thank Mr. Bill Jackson, President of Chicago Associates, and Head of The Discovery Partners Institute. Bill has always inspired us, taught us to be thoughtful and bold, and encouraged us to pull the future forward. You make everybody who comes in contact with you a better person and professional. We would also like to thank Dr. Youngchoon Park and Dr. Young M. Lee, two treasured colleagues who have opened our eyes to the possibilities of AI and helped us reimagine a world with AI. Vikram Chowdhary, Mandar Agaskar, and Sachin Patil have been immensely helpful in creating the various visualizations for the book. We salute their amazing creativity and contribution in making many of the ideas visually memorable. We would also like to thank Samuel Freeman and Michael Beck, who have been instrumental in helping us create the frameworks for defining and quantifying value. Next we would like to thank Dr. Jignesh Patel, serial entrepreneur, Professor at UW Madison, and CEO of DataChat, as being a thought partner in our journey. We thank Sujith Ebenezer, Karl Reichenberger, Subrata Bhattacharya, Shyam Sunder, Braja Majumder, and Asif Shafi for being great sounding boards and collaborators over the years. We thank Ms. Maria Hurter, Exec Assistant to the Group CEO of Bee'ah for coordinating many of the discussions and exchanges across country borders and time zones for this global collaboration. We express our gratitude to Ms. Nicole Wesch, Chief Communications Officer of the Schindler Group, who helped us organize the participation of Mr. Silvio Napoli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Schindler. We also thank Ms. Sarah Anderhalten of Henkel for coordinating the participation of Mr. Michael Nilles, CDO of Henkel, for this project. Silvio and Michael have been inspirational leaders in the digital transformation of some of the biggest corporate giants and have helped shape the leadership conversation in this book.
We are also immensely grateful to the trust and support from Mr. Salim Al Owais, Chairman of Beeah, who has allowed to push the boundaries to make Beeah what it is today and a regional pioneer in digitalization and sustainability.
Last but not least, we thank our Executive Editor, Mr. Sheck Cho, and Managing Editor, Ms. Susan Cerram, of Wiley for their help to bring this project to life. Sheck was one of the first who believed in this effort and mentored us throughout the journey. Susan helped us immensely in managing the publication, giving us valuable inputs, and keeping us on track.
