BETTER BALANCE LEADS TO BETTER BUSINESS RESULTS

Successful organizations of the future will be led by fully engaged, balanced teams of men and women working together synergistically to produce extraordinary results.

Studies prove that organizations with a greater number of women in senior executive roles are more profitable, have greater market share, and are better able to compete and grow. Businesses with fewer women leaders are just plain leaving money on the table. Yet even in the twenty-first century, women are still not equally represented in leadership.

In her groundbreaking new book, leadership expert Rebecca Shambaugh argues that business leaders need to embrace and leverage the broader spectrum of gender intelligence that fosters a balanced leadership perspective and yields better business results. Make Room for Her reveals:

  • What an Integrated Leadership model looks like
  • Why the Integrated Leadership approach is powerfuland sustainable
  • What organizations, men, and women can do to harness the unique qualities of men and women
  • How to ensure female talents dont go unnoticed
  • Make Room for Her provides firsthand advice from men on how women can grow and advance to the senior leadership and executive levels, and it offers a females perspective on how men can best coach and support them in doing so.

Featuring interviews with more than 50 top executives as well as case studies based on Shambaughs work coaching hundreds of women and men leaders, Make Room for Her is essential reading for anyone who hopes to lead an organization to greatness.

    Introduction

HAVING SERVED as an executive for three Fortune 500 companies and running my own leadership development company for the past 20 years, I feel qualified to say that the one constant in business is change! But even though constant change has become the norm, I am amazed at the tremendous impact it still has on all of us. Never before have I seen so many business leaders, across all business sectors and industries, work so hard to juggle so many challenges and opportunities. Shifting market conditions, higher customer expectations, ever-evolving workforce demographics, new business processes, constant advances in technology, and rapid social changes are causing many business leaders to rethink the kind of leadership that is needed to be successful now and in the future.

Furthermore, many futurists have said that our world is in a time of dramatic change and that we will continue to experience unresolved complexities that will call for all of us to adapt to a new way of thinking and leadingone that does not fight the new realities but adapts and flows with the new external forces that are impacting us today.

All this evidence indicates that we are on the brink of a significant change in how we lead our organizations. What we need is a sustainable approach for developing the best leadership for success in todays economy. Integrated Leadership harnesses the collective human intelligence available to us on gender-balanced teams. Theres strength in each gender, just as theres strength in a diversity of life experiences, age experiences, racial experiences, ethnicity, culture, and so many other aspects of life that make us who we are.

If the issue of leadership is important to youas an executive trying to develop the next generation of leaders, a leader wanting to improve your teams effectiveness, or someone looking to join the ranks of leadership in your organizationthis book is for you. While it addresses the lack of women in senior leadership, let me be clear that it is not a book about the need for diversity or the need to do a better job of promoting women. Nor is it another self-help book for women in business. In fact, many of these types of books are based on the premise that the reason women are not advancing is that the system is stacked against them or there is something wrong with the system. I disagree.
