Going Wild With Flow-Altering TechniquesI would like to introduce you to watercolor. Dont be overwhelmed by the dollops of paint sitting in a neat row on the pristine palette, or the sheets of white, unmarked paper. Think of those paint dabs as playful children, full of fun and creativity.

The paper is their playground. They instinctively know all the traditional games of hide and seek, climb and slide, and running races. The pigment children also know how to be very quiet and still if the game requires it. As much as the paint playmates love to frolic with abandon, their favorite game by far is lets pretend. They have the unlimited imagination of childhood and can turn the white expanse of the playground into whatever is desired. Be it a storm-tossed sea, a sunlit meadow, a Victorian mansion or a bowl of strawberries, nothing is too difficult for these fanciful playactors.

However, with the exuberance of youth ready to explode, these children need a little guidance. They need someone more mature to set boundaries and watch over them as they play. Someone whos not afraid to join in the spirit of the game. They need a mentor. This is the role the artist takes on. The chapters of this book were developed to teach you how to become a skillful mentor, in the simplest way possible.

Within these pages is the information you will need to properly prepare the pigment children for play, an explanation of the tools you will need to equip the playground and even some advice on transporting the children safely to the playing field. Best of all, I will show you how to direct the lively pigment playmates without spoiling their spontaneity. You and the watercolor can learn to become creative partners. As you relax and begin to know and understand the medium, you will find that it is both able and willing to do some of the creative process on its own. Watercolor truly is a unique and gifted child.
