People and incidents in this book are composites created by the author from his experiences as a medical doctor. Names and details of the stories have been changed, and any similarity between the names and stories of individuals described in this book to individuals known to readers is purely coincidental.

The nutrition facts for restaurants and brand-name products mentioned in this book were made public by their companies. For companies who do not provide complete nutrition information to the public, the estimates for their products were obtained from www.healthydiningfinder.com and www.thedailyplate.com. THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO OUR CHILDREN.
This is the first generation in history that is not expected to live as long as their parents. As parents we should be examples of health and healthy eating for our children. We need to love our children enough to teach them which foods to eat and which to avoid. We also need to keep junk food and sugary foods out of the house. Hosea 4:6 says, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledgenot a lack of prayer, a lack of faith, or a lack of love, but a lack of knowledge. I pray that Eat This and Live! arms you and your family with the knowledge you need to make this generation the healthiest generation!
CONTENTS
W HEN I WROTE THESeven Pillars of Health, I introduced people to the seven basic pillars of a healthy lifestyle. I believe that by living out the seven principles I shared in that book, anyone can become stronger, healthier, more energetic, younger looking, wiser, smarter, and more disease resistant.
As a medical doctor who is board certified in family practice and anti-aging, I have dedicated my life to helping people become healthy. Because I have spent more than twenty years treating patients, the advice I give in my books is based on my years of experience with real problems and real people.
One area of health that I commonly address when treating my patients is their diet. Why? Because research has shown us over and over again that too many Americans are eating their way to an early grave! The key is to know what foods to eat heartily, what foods to eat in moderation, and what foods to avoid. Wouldnt it be great if there were a road map to help you navigate through the often-treacherous territory of healthy food choices? That is exactly what you hold in your hands.
The first several chapters of this book come from Pillar 3 of The Seven Pillars of Health, where I lay the groundwork to help you obtain a deeper understanding of why some foods are healthy (living) and some are unhealthy (dead). In the remaining chapters Ive removed the guesswork by giving you my picks of the healthiest food items in your grocery store and many popular fast-food and casual-dining restaurants. Ive also provided you with tips for storing and preparing food in the healthiest ways possible, along with tips for getting your children to eat more healthily too. As a result, this is an extremely practical guidebook that teaches you how to adopt a dietary lifestyle that is maintainable for years to come. My goal is not to make eating a chore or to make more work on your part, but to enable you to exchange old habits for new ones.
