Fractionated: In this variety of coconut oil, all the long chain fatty acids and some medium chain triglycerides are removed. Only a fraction of caprylic acid is retained. This lowers the melting point of the oil and you can utilize it in its liquid form. This is used in soaps, skin care products, massage oils and medicines. It is not advisable to consume this as the process of refining strips it of its important long chain and medium chain fatty acids.

Cold pressed, expeller pressed and centrifuged: These are various terms used for extraction of oil from fresh or dry coconut and are available in both unrefined and refined varieties.

Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated coconut oil: These are the ones that you should avoid as the process of hydrogenation creates synthetic trans fats.

HOW TO USE COCONUT OIL?

Okay, let us put all the stuff behind for now and concentrate on how to start using coconut oil.
