Chapter 1:

Your goal in this book is twofold: to review fundamental math skills and to practice applying these skills. To this end, there are a number of Check Your Skills questions throughout each chapter. After learning a topic, try these problems (one at a time, if more than one), checking your answers at the back of the chapter as you go.

If you find these questions challenging, reread the section you just finished.
