Soy sauce is normally very high in salt and not recommended for use in baby or toddlers foods for this reason. Choosing a lower salt soy sauce can be therefore be a good swap for the whole family but be careful each brand is different with some still containing too much salt. Try to chose a low salt variety that has less than 6g/100mls of salt on the label

This book is all about family food. Meals that the whole family can sit and eat together. From 6-month-olds just starting on their culinary adventure and fussy toddlers experimenting with food refusal, to time-pressed mums, dads and grandparents who love nothing more than to spend time with their family; everyone can sit around the table and enjoy every recipe in this book, together!
When I was a little girl, I would help my mum to cook our family meals, then we would all sit around the dining table and eat together as a family, discussing the ingredients and talking about our day. Im a big believer that this is the reason why I enjoy food so much now! Studies show that eating with your child, modelling and enjoying mealtimes together are really important. Firstly, it helps baby and toddler learn how to eat by watching the people around them enjoy the same food, but secondly, it combats fussiness by having happy, healthy mealtime role models. Eating together as a family instils a healthy eating routine so mealtimes become less of a struggle. Most importantly, it means we only need to cook once!
In this book, I guide you through the most commonly asked questions when first starting to wean a baby onto solid food. But most importantly, I invite you to cook the easy and delicious family meals that I share with my daughter. I hope to give you the confidence to feed your family and enjoy eating together.
When Nina started to wean onto solid foods, I felt like a rabbit in the headlights. Pures or finger foods? Do I need to start with baby rice? What textures are safe for baby? What can, and cant, I serve to her? So many questions, and with so many sources of information, I wasnt sure who to trust.
I personally began Ninas weaning journey with pures alongside a mixture of finger foods. Focusing on sharing meals with Nina, I offered her a pured version of my meal, along with a small selection of the food in finger strip form, so she was able to explore different textures from the same taste. After a month or so had passed, Nina started to refuse the spoon so we went for a pure baby-led weaning method.
Its important to note that this is mine and Ninas weaning journey, and it may look completely different to yours. This is totally fine every baby is different, and every baby will eat differently.
Every recipe in this book has been created with time-pressed parents in mind and as such every single one can be cooked in under 30 minutes check the timings next to the stopwatch symbol (). All the prep is as simple as it can be, so you can get it done in between changing nappies and helping with homework.
I know that weaning your little one can be worrying so Ive labelled each recipe so you can tell whats suitable for your family at a glance. All the recipes are safe to serve right from the start of your journey. Look out for these symbols:
