About the Author

Dr. Nagaratnam Sivakuganreceived his bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, with First Class Honours. He earned his MSCE and Ph.D. from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. His writings include 10 books, 160 refereed journal papers, 100 refereed international conference papers, and more than 100 consulting reports. His h-index is 33, with more than 5000 citations. As a registered professional engineer in Queensland and a chartered engineer, Dr. Sivakugan works closely with the geotechnical and mining industries and carries out substantial consulting work in Australia and overseas, including for the World Bank. He has supervised 16 Ph.D.s to completion at James Cook University, Australia, where he was the head of civil engineering from 2003 to 2014. He was the associate editor for the International Journal of Geotechnical Engineeringfor many years, and currently serves on the editorial boards of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal, International Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering
