Preface

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are two thriving fields of research at the heart of countless modern day technological innovations. The BeNelux Conference on Artificial Intelligence (BNAIC) and the Belgian-Dutch Conference on Machine Learning (Benelearn) traditionally bring together these communities for an annual conference, and have done so jointly since 2018.

In 2020, the 32nd BNAIC/Benelearn conference was organized by Leiden University, under the auspices of the Benelux Association for Artificial Intelligence (BNVKI). It took place in a fully online format as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. During November 1920, 2020, researchers and practitioners were welcomed to discuss and exchange novel scientific findings, as well as new developments and applications in business and industry. The conference was a great success, with interesting keynote talks by Joost Batenburg (Leiden University), Gabriele Gramelsberger (Aachen University) and Tom Schaul (Google Deepmind), and invited talks by Luc de Raedt (KU Leuven), Nico Roos (Maastricht University) and Yingqian Zhang (Eindhoven University of Technology). In addition, lively contributed sessions and a succesful industry and society afternoon were organized.

This volume contains the postproceedings of the BNAIC/Belenearn 2020 conference. Authors were invited to submit papers on all aspects of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Out of the 41 full papers submitted to the conference, 12 papers (29%) were invited to contribute to the postproceedings. All papers were subject to a single-blind review by at least three Program Committee members.

We want to express our gratitude towards all those who contributed to organizing and running the conference and its postproceedings. This includes the Program Committee, additional reviewers, conference chairs, local organizers, students, conference sponsors, Leiden University and the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science.
