This book contains 20 yoga poses and sequences for little kids, each with a purpose tied to a developmental skill or benefit. You can start at the beginning of the book or skip around until you land on your favorite page. Read everything on the page or just look at the name of the pose and illustration. Young children love repetition and might want to practice the same poses multiple times before trying new ones. Be prepared for giggles, animal noises, and sweet moments of stillness! This is meant to be interactive and fun for children and adults alike.
Imagine you have a flower in one hand
and a candle in the other.
Inhale to smell the beautiful flower.
Exhale to blow out the candle flame.
Repeat before practicing the yoga poses.
Take a seat, with legs crossed in front of you.
Place one hand on the ground at your side.
Bend your other arm over your body like a rainbow in the sky.
Find a seat, and then touch the soles of your feet.
Stretch your arms out high.
Move your arms and knees up and down
like a butterfly in the sky.
Place your hands and knees on the ground.
Look down at your knees and round your back to the sky.
Take a deep breath in.
Meow like a cat.
Place your hands and knees on the ground.
Arch your back.
Look up like a cow.
What do you see?
Place your hands and feet on the ground
bottom up, tail wags around.
Stretch, bark, and play
like a dog enjoying the day.
Kneel on the ground.
Place your palms on your knees.
Take a deep breath in, and then stick out your tongue.
Make a great big ROAR!
Sit on your heels.
Lower your tummy and head to the ground.
Tuck into your turtle shell
to rest without a sound.
Lie on your tummy with your hands under your shoulders.
Slowly push your head and chest up.
Slither and wiggle like a snake.
What sound will you make?
Stand up tall, and then squat down low.
Bring your bottom toward the floor.
Hop up like a frog.
How high can you go?
Stand tall like a mountain.
Stretch your arms up high.
Now bend down low,
moving nice and slow,
to touch your hands to the ground.
Walk your hands to the front.
Get ready for fun
dogs love playing in the sun.
Stand up tall.
Jump your feet apart.
Stretch your arms up wide.
Say thank you to the stars that sparkle in the sky.
