CHAPTER 1
Introduction

T he authors have envisioned this book to be a reference and a repository of algorithms and tools for practicing reservoir modelers and engineers. The book is written from the perspective of a practitioner of geostatistics and flow simulation. There are certainly many books currently available in the market that focus on specific topics in geostatistical reservoir modeling or numerical flow simulation, but it is difficult to find a book that covers the basic concepts relevant to both realms of study.
