Thomas left the Yard.He went to runhis own Branch Line.Henry and Gordonmissed Thomas.With Thomas gone,there was morework to do.Henry and Gordonwere cross.Henry grumbledas he pushed trucks.Gordon grumbledas he pulled coaches.One day,a circus cameto town.Now the engineswere even busier.Henry pushedthe trucks.Gordon pulledthe coaches.They did notgrumble.Henry and Gordonliked the circus.The next day,Henry took workmento a blocked tunnel.The workmenpicked up their tools.Time to clear the line.They walked inside.Something big wasin the tunnel.It would not move.It grunted.It was alive!They ran outside.The Foreman had a plan.Henry could push trucksinto the tunnel.Wheesh, said Henry.Henry did not liketunnels.He was scared.Henry pushed thetrucks.They wentinto the dark tunnel.BUMP!Henry pushed hard.The big, scary thingpushed back.Henry pushed harder.The big, scary thingpushed hardest!Henry inchedbackwards.First,Henry was pushedout of the tunnel.Then the truckswere pushed out.At last,they saw whatwas in the tunnel.It was an elephant!And he looked cross.He had run awayfrom the circus.The workmen fed himand gave himlots of water.The elephant felt better.Henry felt better, too.He let off steam.Whoosh!Henrys steam scaredthe elephant.Splash!Poor Henry.It was time to go home.Everyone laughedat Henry.An elephantpushed me andsplashed me,Henry grumbled.But in the Shed,Henry toldhis funny story.His friends laughed.This timeHenry laughed, too.Next page
