I t was cold and dark as I lay on the stone floor of the dungeon. As my eyes gazed up at the turrets I realised I was in an unwelcoming castle. As my almost lifeless body tried to sit up, a big drip of water fell on to my head. I screwed up my eyes yet again as another huge drip fell on to my head. As I slowly opened my eyes, a large dark figure stood in the doorway. As it came closer to me, a horrible stench filled the air. It was unbearable. Now I wanted to close my nostrils as well as my eyes.

Suddenly, I stared at this hideous thing. It had two heads with two pairs of dark, menacing eyes that stared back at me. It had two round noses with strands of green slime coming from them. Its mouth was huge with teeth as sharp as the blades of knives. The body of this monster was large and hairy. The tail was long and hairy as well. The monstrous beast let out a fearsome growl! I felt like I was going to scream but no sound came out as my throat was dry and sore. I have to find a way to get out of here before this creature can eat me, I thought.

I took my eyes away from the monster and sat their still and thoughtful. How could I distract the monster? I thought that maybe there was something in my bag that could help. I didnt have a clue how my bag ended up here with me. I was probably holding it when the monster caught me and brought me here. Before I was here, the last thing I could remember was me sitting in my garden. My mum had gone out at the time so I was alone. But then, I heard someone growling and I realised that this monster was a few feet away from where I was. I screamed and tried to run back to my house but it was no use. The monster had caught me and, as far as I knew, I ended up here. I took my bag off and opened it. The bag was a small, black leather one with a strap which goes over your shoulder. Quickly, I began rummaging frantically around my bag, hoping for something useful. While doing this, the monster came even closer to me. Oh no! Hes going to strike, I thought. At last, I pulled out a flute. I started to play it. The music was soft and soothing. I played and played until finally the monster lowered itself to lie down. Eventually the monster was snoring loudly. I stopped playing. I waited, watching the monster, wondering whether he would awaken. But he didnt. I knew that this was my chance to escape. But what if he wakes up, I asked myself. What do I do? The answer to these questions was simply just to be brave and to make the right moves at the right moments.

Alright then. Here goes. I put the flute away and grabbed my bag. Slowly, I tried to lift myself up to stand. It was difficult because my body was stiff and weak. I tried it a first time but I failed to stand upright. I fell. Then, I tried it again. Still, I fell. The third times a charm, I thought. This time, I pushed with all my might until at last, I was standing upright. Now I had to climb over the monster without waking it up. Slowly, I put one foot over the large body of the ferocious creature. Then, I put my other leg over. I did it. I moved very cautiously to the open door of this unpleasant dungeon. There were a few narrow steps until I reached the corridors of the castle. I crept slowly away from the dungeon. Surprisingly, it was on the top floor of the castle. Im going to have to do allot of walking to get as far as I can from the monster, I thought. But at least, I was free from the dungeon. At least the monster wasnt in front of me any longer. I began making my way down the stairs, through doors and into rooms of the castle.

I crept along the corridor of the top floor of the castle. I could hear nothing as I walked along this dimly lit corridor. At the end of the corridor I came to a winding spiral staircase. I climbed down the stairs until I could climb no more. I walked along more corridors until I came to a set of double doors. Slowly, I heaved the doors ajar as I had nowhere else to go. I stepped into this large room.

This room was much brighter than the dungeon and it cheered me up a little. As my eyes travelled further and further into the room I saw that the room was full of shelves. The shelves were piled up with beautiful jewels, diamonds and golden gems. I came closer so I could have a better look. All around the room there were shelves of sapphires, rubies, crystals and emeralds. There were also things like beautiful bracelets, necklaces, earrings and gold rings. This, it seemed to me, was the castle jewel room. The jewels gleamed in the sunlight. The walls were painted in every colour of the rainbow plus some gold. It was a dream come true. I had never been in a room filled with this many jewels. But alas, it was time for me to make my way out of this room. I took one last look at the jewels and walked to the door at the other end. I pushed it open and made my way out, closing the large heavy door behind me.

Whilst walking through the castle, I kept hoping that the monster wouldnt wake up and find me all over again. Soon a delicious smell came wafting through the air. This smell was definitely more pleasant than the smell of the monster. It smelled like some fabulous feast was being held. Then, without knowing it, I stepped into a huge room. The room was full of tables and chairs. The tables had beautiful silk cloths over them. On the tables lay some gold plates and bowls. I wished there was some food left. I was starving. There were also golden knives and forks and fancy glasses to drink from. It looked like everyone in this banquet hall was finished eating. Suddenly, one of the castle servants approached me. Quickly, I said its ok. Im just a castle maid. The servant went away a bit confused as he had never seen me before. I walked across the large banquet hall and stepped into another room.

This room was a large open space with chairs all around it. The chandelier looked just like crystals. This room was probably the castle ballroom. I was really glad that I wore one of my favourite dresses. It was violate in colour and it reached to just below my knees. I also wore a pair of black flat shoes. The other girls wore dresses of every colour I could think of. Their dresses were beautiful. There was a dance floor in the middle of the ballroom and on it was a girl. She looked as if she was the princess. She danced on the polished floor of the ballroom. The princess had long flowing golden hair and wore the most breath taking dress. The dress was pink with sparkling ribbons on it. It had flowers on it as well and it was really long. It reached to the floor. Her tiara was pink and of course, gold. The tiara had lots of diamonds on it. On her feet she wore dainty pink slippers to match her dress. There was a band playing. The music sounded lovely. I loved the way the princess danced.
