KNIT YOUR VERY OWN PENNY THE PANDA
    BY LAURA LONG

Penny the Panda Introduction It is very rare to see a panda bear like Penny - photo 2

    Penny the Panda Introduction

It is very rare to see a panda bear like Penny. She lives in China. She is shy and likes to hide away from people so they cant find her. But you can always tell when she is near, because of the munching sounds as she chews her bamboo.

You can change the appearance of this bear completely, simply by using different colour combinations of yarn. You could knit the body in brown and the tummy in white. Try to use a soft yarn to make your bear really cuddly.

Penny the Panda sits under the trees

And looks at the sky through the bright-coloured leaves.

She greedily munches some green bamboo shoots

And nibbles them all right down to the roots.

    Making up
    Body

Sew the back body seam from each end, leaving an opening of approximately 1in (3cm) in the middle (see Techniques: ).

    Fill with stuffing.

    Sew up the opening.

    Head

Sew the rear head seam from each end, leaving an opening of approximately 1in (3cm) in the middle.

    Fill with stuffing.

    Sew up the opening.

    Nose

Sew up the seam starting from the tip of nose.

Loosely fill with stuffing. (Too much stuffing will make the nose look big.)

Stitch the nose to the front of the head using the black eye patches to position it correctly.

    Ears

Fold each ear in half, right sides out, and sew up the back seam. This gives you a chunky, double-sided ear.

Sew along the bottom straight edge and pull gently to give the ear its curved shape.

Cut out two iron-on interfacing-lined fabric ear patches (see ).

Sew each piece of fabric to the inside of one knitted ear (see Techniques: ).
