A NOTE ON THE AUTHOR

Shonali Sabherwal is Indias first practising macrobiotic counsellor and chef from the Kushi Institute (USA). She started her training under Mona Schwartz, one of the pioneers of the macrobiotic diet. Her tryst with macrobiotics began in 1998 when her father was diagnosed with cancer, and she wanted to help him with an alternative approach to recovery. The mantle of being a cancer-curing diet was given to macrobiotics in the mid-1970s as it helped people recover and stay in remission from the most aggressive cancers.

She started her macrobiotic meal business in 2008, and has written two books: The Beauty Diet and The Love Diet. She has a flourishing counselling practice and applies her core skills as a health practitioner. She has worked with ailments (over a thousand different cases) and helped reverse or keep them in remission.

She has started a Healthy Macro Kids programme for schools all over Mumbai and Delhi, wherein she talks to parents on their own health and on raising healthy children. She has also introduced a Wellness Food menu as part of her repertoire of services for Wellness Health spas and restaurants, where she conceives and curates menus, and trains chefs. She will be introducing her own range of edible health products made with natural foods in 2017.

My Story: One Big Detox

I remember my friend Anu telling me, Gogi (my nickname), you are always on a diet! While there is truth in this statement, I would say Ive been on a detox diet every minute of every day for the last twenty-odd years. To achieve this, I have done two things that have laid the foundation of my life. Firstly, I learnt how to practise meditation daily so that I dont carry any negativity, be it from situations or people. This ensures that there is no negative mental residue that might build up from my environment. Secondly, I have stayed true to a macrobiotic lifestyle for the last twenty-odd years, which makes for healthier blood, and is one true to the master detox lifestyle.
