Easter
Easter is a religious festival that celebrates the Christian
belief that Jesus came back to life after his death. Easter also
symbolizes rebirth in nature, as it comes in springtime when
plants begin to bloom once again after winter.
Special Days
Easter Day is always a Sunday. It can be any Sunday between
March 22 and April 25 because it is the rst Sunday in that period
after the full moon appears. Christians start preparing for Easter
in the 40-day period before it, called Lent . Many give up a favorite
treat, such as candy, to show gratitude to Jesus. On Easter Day,
Christians celebrate together. They may go to church, sing joyful
hymns , and eat a special meal with their family and friends.
Happy Easter!
Baby chicks are
symbols
of new life. They are
often born in spring, when
Easter is celebrated.
Celebrating Spring
In pre-Christian times people celebrated
with festivals in spring. Still today, people
who are not Christians celebrate Easter
as the beginning of spring. The word
Easter comes from Eastre, who was
the ancient goddess of spring in Germany.
In this book you will nd out how to make
some wonderful origami pieces that will
make Easter even more fun and festive!

The Easter Story
The story of Jesuss good deeds and the sacrice of his life is
the inspiration for the Easter holiday. The story says that
Jesus was a man who lived about 2,000 years ago, in a land
that today is in both Israel and Palestine. He wanted people
to follow the will of God. He had a group of followers, called
disciples . The disciples helped Jesus preach to people. Jesus
was very unpopular with the government and was put to
death in Jerusalem. Christians believe that Jesus rose again,
and the Easter holiday celebrates that rebirth.
Easter is a time to
celebrate the end
of winter and the
arrival of spring.
Celebrating Rebirth
The story of the rebirth of Jesus at Easter
is a positive message for Christians.
However, it is not just Christians who
celebrate at Easter time. For everyone,
Easter is a time to celebrate the rebirth
we see all around us in nature. This is a
time when new life begins, after the long
and cold winter. Green shoots appear on
plants and trees. The Earth is reawakening.
Animals and birds give birth to their young,
so that they can grow up through the
warm months of the spring and
summer. This is a hopeful time.
