Parenting for a Peaceful World is one of those rare books that get under your skin. It shocks, it inspires, and you cant stop talking about it. Parenting for a Peaceful World challenges the inevitability of war and violence, and offers an optimistic, yet entirely possible, view of a peaceful and sustainable world.

Robin Grille traces gradual improvements in parental practices over the past few centuries and points the way optimistically towards a future where childrens needs are responded to empathically and sensitively. Here is the how to do it path to a fairer, more egalitarian society. If you aspire to a future of happy children raised in a happy society, this is the book for you. Passionate, eloquent, scholarly yet accessiblein a word, brilliant!
John Cunningham, PhD, Department of Psychology, Macquarie University, Australia
Beginning with a tour de force on the history of childhood, Grille provides both a grand (and sometimes upsetting) perspective on the evolving ways adults have related to children, then offers down-to-earth, practical wisdom for parents that is specific to all the developmental stages.
He draws on personal experience as well as solid, but sadly, little-known research, to break new ground with his thought-provoking perspective combined with a very readable personable style. Reading it rekindled my desire to change how we treat children (and ourselves) and it excites me that Robins vast knowledge and resources are now available in print.
John W Travis, MD, MPH, co-author of Wellness Workbook; co-founder of Alliance for Transforming the Lives of Children
The combination of a strong foundation of clinical experience, journalistic integrity and concise ideas supported by extensive references sets this book apart from the work of others in the field. I believe that the framework for change provided in Robin Grilles book will become essential reading.
Victor R Evatt, President, Australian Association of Infant Mental Health, New South Wales Branch
In clear and compelling language, Robin Grille takes on the Herculean task of exploring the childhood origins of human action and choice, from its most violent to its most humane, for individuals as well as for families and countries, and for the most simple to the most complex behaviorand against all odds, he succeeds. This is the book that could save the world, if we can only pay attention.
Jan Hunt, MSc, Director, The Natural Child Project and author of The Natural Child: Parenting from the Heart and A Gift for Baby
What a marvelous parenting book! And at last a major Australian contribution to the history of childhood in the noble DeMause tradition! The message of Robin Grilles book is instructive, timely, and vital. As well as for parents, politicians, and the public generally, Parenting for a Peaceful World is a must read for anyone and everyone in the child development profession.
Stephen Juan, PhD, author of Parenting, Child Development and Child Health; Professor, School of Development an Learning, Faculty of Education and Social Work, The University of Sydney

Lloyd deMause, director, Institute for Psychohistory; editor, Journalof Psychohistory; founding president, International Psychohistorical Association
Robins reverence for children and sincerity about seeing their needs are met makes this a very important book. In particular, the practical childcare information in this book is not readily available to parents and caretakers. It is unfair for such information to be confined to academic realmswe need it now. Fortunately, Robin is able to present academic information in a readily accessible way.
Robin does not sit on fenceshis passion is compelling and convincing. I would love anyone who cares about, or who is entrusted with the care of children to read this book, to learn from it, and to help promote the vision of healthy children in a healthy world.
Pinky McKay, author of 100 Ways to Calm the Crying and Parenting by Heart
Where does the future of humanity lie? Right before usin the simple day-today choices we make about the children in our lives. Grille successfully opens the borders of parenting beyond sentimentality, and into the arena of profound social contribution. His book is filled with gems for anyone passionate about our future. This book should be required reading for all politicians, social change activists, teachers, leaders and visionaries.

Parenting for a Peaceful World has provided both our Parent Educator Training Program participants and their families with the historical view of Western childhood, upon which we are working to build the paradigm shift necessary to raise children to be empathetic, emotionally intelligent adults.
Robins quote, The human brain and heart, primarily met with empathy in the critical early years, cannot and will not grow to choose a violent or selfish life similarly inspires us. Yes, we can change society, and as Robin states clearly, it begins with how we raise our children. Nothing else has the potential to create such a profound shift in the world.
As Robin shows, there is yet to be a time in the history of the Western world where children are raised with profound reflective care by all the people who interface with childrenparents, teachers, and pediatricians.
Our commitment is to create a new era where we can truly say that no form of violence has any place in raising children. Thank you Robin Grille, for giving us the psycho-historical context for all of us participating in the institution of childrearing.
