Curated by two art educators with decades of experience, this rich collection of 53 arts and crafts activities offers up a ton of freeform fun, from Doodlemonsters and Painted Animal Rocks to Paper Bead Jewelry and Nature Weaving. Projects vary in difficulty so theres something for a wide range of ages and abilities, and many can be completed in under an hour. Each project featured in the book has been kid-made (and kid-approved!), and colorful photos of the finished pieces will ignite a creative spark that inspires budding makers to express their imagination, humor, and individuality through art.

Welcome to Our Studio

Hello! We love making art and we are very excited to share some of our favorite projects with you.

All of the projects in this book come from our Summer Art Barn camp. We spend all day going from project to project and letting our campers try out lots of different kinds of art. Theres drawing and painting, of course, but also sculpture and working with fabric, paper, and nature to create beautiful and unique projects. At our camp we nurture creativity and encourage experiencing the joy of making art.

This book includes our very favorite projects so that you can join the fun. We give you easy-to-follow directions that show you how to use a variety of materials most of which you may already know about and some you may not. We hope that these projects spark your imagination!

Each project will take between 30 and 90 minutes to complete Our handy 1- 2- - photo 4

Each project will take between 30 and 90 minutes to complete. Our handy 1-, 2-, and 3-scissor icons quickly show you how difficult each activity is. On even the simplest projects, theres a lot of room for you to add your own touches and make it your own. We hope you try something new with every creation.

Nice to Meet You!

Marion started Summer Art Barn in 1989 so she could spend time creating art with her daughter, Olivia, and Olivias friends. The program has become a popular creativity camp that enrolls 25 kids a week for the whole summer.

Hilary joined Summer Art Barn in 2013. Shes a working artist who, among other things, paints pictures of animals wearing hats and makes tiny whimsical houses. She also makes funny monsters out of socks. (And you can, too! See to learn how.)

Good luck, and happy art-making!
