DEAR READER
THERE IS NOTHING like a positive pregnancy test to focus your attention on your lifestyle and eating habits. Suddenly you realize that everything you eat, drink, and do with your body can directly affect the new life you are carrying. And, if you are like most mothers-to-be, this profound realization makes you want the best for your baby, even before he or she is born. Eating for Pregnancy was written to help you achieve that goal, and this updated edition brings you all the very latest nutritional information with practical, easy ways to meet those needs.
In keeping with our first edition, we are committed to focusing on the realities of life. Not all pregnancies are nine months of blissin fact, most arent. You will probably experience some form of mild turbulence along the way, be it morning sickness, constipation, or indigestion. Some complications, such as gestational diabetes and gestational hypertension, are more serious and can require a special diet or bed rest.
Catherine experienced gestational hypertension in both of her pregnancies, so she understands firsthand the difficulties, stress, and fears involved with a high-risk pregnancy. Rose Ann, on the other hand, had relatively easy pregnancies, but from her twenty-plus years of experience as a perinatal nutritionist, she has seen or heard just about everything imaginable. Wherever you find yourself, between the two of us, weve probably either been there or gained insight from someone who has.
