Foreword

Dear Reader,

I would like to start off bythanking you for purchasing this e-book. The purchase you have madeis an investment that will help you build a skill that can bepassed on for generations. I first learned how to successfullybraid hair by my Mother when I was eight-years old. She braidedhair to make extra money while in college. As my younger sistersand I grew up, she braided our hair in every style imaginable. Shemade me practice my first style on a Barbie Doll. It was not onlyfun and innovative; but it enabled me to tap into a well ofcreative energy that I had never experienced before. I learned atthat moment that braiding hair is calming, peaceful andexhilarating!

I did not take braiding hairseriously as a source of income until I started braiding hair formy friends at age 15. That is when people started asking me to helpthem recreate the latest styles in the magazines of our time. Incollege, hair braiding helped me get through those rough months andit has still been a source of joy for me now. I have never reallycared about making money; (although making a successful source ofincome is not bad) once you get into the flow of braiding you beginto step into a peaceful experience that leaves you and the clienthappy with the end result. I can always guarantee my clients a painfree experience while still maintaining a quality look.

In this book, you will learnthe basics of braiding and technique. This book does not coverevery braiding style, but it does capture and provide anotheralternative for natural hair solutions. In the pages to follow, youwill learn three-strand braided hair styles, how to construct amicro braid look with human and synthetic hair, how to buildvarious cornrow styles, and how to successfully interlock variousbraided and non-braided hair styles. Be sure to also read carefullythe section on upkeep and maintenance of each style to ensure itslongevity. I hope you are blessed by this e-book and you are ableto develop your ultimate potential by discovering the braiderwithin. Go ahead and Braid Girl!!!!!

Sincerely,

Chanell J. Wilson

Authors Note: WAIT! before we begin; remember braiding andmastering the technique takes time and practice. You may not beinspired by your first braided style; but do not under anycircumstances let that stop you from trying again. When I did myfirst official braid with extensions (on my doll Biancas head atage 10); it was one of the worst jobs I had ever done. But I was soproud of myself for trying that I kept up at the work with my otherdolls and now years later I am able to write a book about how to doit. So never give up.

Chapter 2: The Three-Strand Braid Technique1

Singles(also known as individuals) are braids made up ofthree-strands of hair braided unattached to the scalp. Thistechnique is used to capture a full Bob Style that last up to Two(2) months. Braid time 8-10 hours.

The Procedure is Simple:

Step 1: Separatesynthetic hair from pack and cut hair at the rubber band (in centerof synthetic

bulk). Pull strands out of thebulk (pinch).

Step 2: In order to geta natural finish, separate pinch of hair into 2 bunches, gatherbunches

together from the middle andthen pull the bunches in opposite directions.

Step 3: Part Clientshair into square part with comb (make size as desired)

Step 4: Grip partedhair at scalp (be sure to grip clients hair but not so firm thatyou damage or rip

clients hair from scalp).

Step 5: With free hand, gather and wrap separated synthetic hair around natural hair whilepulling

downward on synthetichair.

Authors Note: Keep slighttension on synthetic hair while wrapping

Step 6: Loop once toensure the hair stays put, then loop clients natural hair (asbraiding)

through the two open strandsof synthetic hair. At this point, a three-strand braid should

begin to form.

Step7: Slowly stop and gather synthetic hair (From one ofthe groups ) and allow it to mix with the

clients natural hair. This is known as the gatheringprocess . Continue process until braid is

complete.

Step 8: After braid iscomplete, clip (with scissors) excess strands from braid.

Jump to Braid Girl section on Alternativesfor the ends of synthetic braided styles.

B eginnersnote: Be sure to braid in a consistent downwardformation to ensure the braids neatness. For

longevity of braid, make sure braids aretight and smooth to ensure the proper application of technique.
