May you become avid readers and have fine stories to tell! From Leah Curry-Rood This book is dedicated to all of the people who have devoted themselves to ensuring the creation of good books for children. Special thanks go to Susan Hirschman, Skip Dye, Bill Morris, Joe Boyd, Jazaan Higgins, Mimi Kayden, Phillip Lee, Kathy Baxter, Marjorie Naughton, Anita Silvey, Jennifer McCluskey, Kathy Neumann, Richard Robinson, Jeannie Lybecker, and Isabel Baker. These people have worked tirelessly to develop quality books for children, and to make them available everywhere. LB1139.35.A37 R354 2002 372.4--dc21 2002004803 From Collaboration to Partnership to Friendship Leah Curry-Rood, one of the three authors of Story S-t-r-e-t-c-h
e-r-s for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos: Experiences, Activities, and Games for Popular Childrens Books , introduced Karen Miller and me. I had admired Karens writing and her abilities to hold an audience spellbound with her stories of teachers and children. Admiring one from afar and forming a writing partnership are different perspectives. Leah, with her love of people and her drive to publish quality teacher resources, started the collaboration that grew to a partnership and ended with a friendship. I shall always be grateful for Leahs introduction. Passionate about children, committed to quality early childhood education, dedicated to developing a love of literature in childhood, and enthusiastic about publishing exceptional teacher resources are descriptions of Leah Curry-Rood. Leah is known in the industry for her expertise, but as authors we know her for her passions. It is with great pride that Leah Curry-Roods name graces the cover of this Story S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-r book. She has been a collaborator, partner, and friend in the production of the four other Story S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-r books, especially with helping to make the book selections for the other Story S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-r books in the series. Karen Miller, Leah Curry-Rood, and I have grown from collaborators to partners to friends in the process of writing Story S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-r-s for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos: Experiences, Activities, and Games for Popular Childrens Books . However, our work together could not have flourished without the guidance of Kathy Charner. Kathys editorial expertise, her insights, and her shared vision for the book guided us.
