ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTORS
Veronica C. Garca, EdD, has been a New Mexico schoolteacher, principal, superintendent, and state cabinet secretary of public education. She has received numerous awards, including the National Governors Association Award for Excellence in State Government, New Mexico Superintendent of the Year, and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Education from Hispanic magazine. She is presently executive director of New Mexico Voices for Children.
Fred Harris, JD with distinction, is a twice-elected former U.S. senator from Oklahoma and a longtime professornow professor emeritusof political science at the University of New Mexico, where he is still director of the UNM Fred Harris Congressional Internship Program. An award-winning author of three novels, he has also produced nineteen nonfiction books on public policy, politics, and government, including, as coeditor, Locked in the Poorhouse: Cities, Race, and Poverty in the United States, and, as coauthor, a recent e-book, These People Want to Work: Immigration Reform.
