The Birth
Of the Toddler Bistro
M y research and writing about toddler nutrition was not so much inspired by my own intellectual curiosity about nutrition, although I have that in spades. It was literally demanded by the multitudes of confused and bewildered parents out there who wanted to know how and what in the world to feed their toddlers. It seemed as if I couldnt write fast enough! If your baby is already into the toddler years, you probably know what Im talking about.
Most parents with toddlers find that at some point mealtimes are a bit challenging, to say the least. You have the best of intentions to serve healthy and nutritious foods but lose steam when all of your hours of food preparation result in your toddler either rejecting or acting completely oblivious to your marvelous meal. You might get stuck in a recipe rut, making or buying the one thing you know your child will eat. If this eating scenario sounds familiar or happens at some point in the future, never fear and never give up. This, too, shall pass, and it does. As soon as you think that your toddler is disgusted by a certain food, you turn around the next day and find him or her eating it, probably off someone elses plate.
Why? Because thats what they do. What should you do? You may laugh in exasperation at this, but please relax and keep the faith. If you keep offering healthy foods, your efforts will pay off in the long run. So, welcome to the Toddler Bistro, where Ill help you with the short run! The Toddler Bistro menu is your gourmet tour to healthy feeding. At the top of the menu, Starters introduces you to personality developments that may affect your toddlers eating habits and explains how to deal with them. The First and Second Course chapters cover food and environmental safety issues that relate to cooking and eating.
Entres offers a collection of easy-to-prepare and yummy toddler-tested recipes that the whole family will enjoy. These recipes are fresh variations on less-healthy kid favorites, as well as some creative new ideas to help inspire you in the kitchen and at the market. Many of the recipes also include a vegan version. la Carte boasts a tantalizing selection of information about important food groups, nutrients, and supplements to enhance your toddlers health. Read all about todays health trends that are important to our future generations and discover tips on how to manage those trends in the Extras chapter. Last but not least is, of course, Desserts, your fun final course.
This chapter ensures that youll graduate from toddler-feeding training with honors. Dont even think about cheating and reading the end first! All in all, my Toddler Bistro is about empowering you with nutritional knowledge, recipes, and appendices filled with food-brand shopping tips and online resources so that you can confidently launch your toddler onto a healthy, happy path to good eating.
Toddler eating tends and tips for dealing with them
Y es, for some parents of
toddlers those honeymoon days, when their sweet babies smile and happily swallow whatever baby food is waved in front of them, are now over. Toddlers will demand any food at the store that is brightly packaged with toys inside, whether or not its good for them. Some toddlers actually eat their fruits and vegetables enthusiastically while parents of less
