Introduction
Getting a job these days is like going to war. You are competing against too many candidates, fighting to get the job that you want, at a time when everyone has more things to write in their CV than ever before. And you have to go through an increasingly complex process of online applications, interviews, assessment centres, and some type of psychometric test most likely a numerical or logical reasoning test. If this is the job that you really want, you need to fight every battle of the recruitment process with all that you have. The battle of passing numerical and logical tests is sometimes the one that makes people the most anxious. But it shouldnt be. This is the battle that you can learn the most about, and that you can prepare for the most. It is also the only battle where you can be sure that you will be judged fairly, because there are right and wrong answers passing it and getting through to the next stage is not up to someones personal judgement.
So how do you prepare for this battle? The first step is to Meet your opponent. Learn what these tests are, and exactly how and why they are used by recruiters. Learn everything necessary to become familiar with and understand what you will be facing. This will help you to be prepared when the battle comes; it will lower your anxiety of facing the unknown and it will give you a more positive attitude, which will help when taking the test. This is the first step it is straightforward and easy.
The second step is to physically Get ready for your opponent. There are many things that you can do to help you perform at your best during the battle. Details like learning what to do the week before the test, the night before the test, or even on the day of the test, to be in the best possible physical condition; knowing how to create an optimum working environment when taking an online test from home; and learning to use positive psychology and relaxation techniques before the test can really make a difference. Learn everything that you can do to be ready for battle; the skills are quick to master and painless to put into action.
The next step is the most crucial one, and also the one that you have to work hardest for: Master your opponent. How do you do this? Initially you learn the moves that your opponent is likely to use against you the types of question that you could face. You then learn how to fight them. You learn your counter-moves the solution to each type of question step by step, with as much detail as necessary to really understand how to fight. And then you practise; you go over each move several times, because practice makes perfect. This is the key to your battle with practice you can really improve your performance. Numerical and logical reasoning tests are not tests that only maths geniuses can do well at. They follow certain rules which you can learn, and the more you practise using the rules, the quicker and more accurate you can become when taking a test.
Once you have mastered your opponent, there is one more thing to do in order to prepare for your battle: simulate a fight and Face your opponent. You have learned the rules of the fight when taking a numerical and logical test. Now it is time to test yourself to see how well you have prepared. This is a chance for you to put into practice what you have learned can you quickly identify what kind of solution to use for each question and are your calculations correct? This way you can identify any weaknesses and go back over any particular moves, if necessary.
