I do my best to live my life according to that mantra, which is why Im a mindful eater. I practice mindful eating by being a thoughtful vegan, which I have been for over a decade.
I can honestly say that what you put into your body greatly impacts all aspects of your life. Not only are there incredible health benefits, but the peace and joy you feel from no longer contributing to so much suffering is remarkable. Im constantly striving to improve myself by practicing yoga, by finding time for meditation, and by keeping myself focused on the things that truly matterso, to me, it only makes sense to bring that balance into my diet. I dont want to eat foods that will decrease my quality of life, or that will cause suffering to othersand that includes animals, as well as people. I simply refuse to support an industry that condones animal abuse. This choice has changed my life.
This lifestyle doesnt only do me good, though. Its far beyond personal gain. The meat industry contributes greatly to climate change; animals raised for food account for more greenhouse gases than all the planes, cars, and trucks combined . A worldwide mindful diet would also resolve so much of the worlds hunger. If we stopped growing crops exclusively for animals that will just end up on someones dinner plate, we could feed the planet seven times over. We could feed hungry PEOPLE with the crops were growing for animals that we kill.
Let that sink in. This is where Karliin Brooks comes in. Karliin makes it easier for us all to be mindful eaters. She is the founder of The Squeeze, a 100 percent organic, raw and gluten-free cold-press juice company in NYC. Now, I drink plenty of juices and smoothies, but Karliins mission to bring healthy and compassionate alternatives to mass-produced junk foods resonated with me. Not only does her company provide fresh juices at numerous locations in the NYC area, but she also has an entire menu of raw comfort foods that are healthy for your body and for the planet.
The Squeeze is committed to veg-ucating the world by advocating a lifestyle of kindness and cruelty-free, all while serving up some nutritious food thats fresh and mostly locally-sourced. With this book, Karliin is helping people everywhere become mindful eaters, mindful of their own health and of our planet. This book isnt just about drinking green juice and calling it a day, its about changing your lifestyle. Its about becoming aware of how everything you consume affects all life, not just yours. This book will help you get one step closer to being one with this amazing world we live in. Fine. Fine.
A little bit yes, but mostly hell no. This wondrous book is a book about cleansing recipes, but do yourself a favor and throw all your misinformed preconceptions about cleansing out the window. Well take care of that later. This most certainly isnt a diet book ( ew ). Diets imply all sorts of restrictions that are ultimately unrealistic for long-term, real life application. Can we get real here? YES, if you cleanse youll most likely shed a few pounds and look damn fine in those jeans, but thats not the point, only a perk.
The recipes in these ws are anti-diet food. Theyre sensual, satiating, and fresh (just like you, baby girl). Theyre feel good, look good food. YES, there are green juice recipes in here. I mean, duh, what were you expecting? Green juices are the ultimate babe fuel. Get that into your beautiful brain.
Theyre not gross and theres no fucking way you could eat that many vegetables in a day if they werent juiced. But babes are people too and they get peckish, which is why this book has the dreamiest Snaxxx recipes. Cue angelic, heavenly sound effects because who doesnt love snacks? 5 out of 5 humans agree that cleanse-friendly snack options get their blood pumping.* (*May not be a real statistic.) Snacks are awesome, thats that. As far as hippie bullshit ? I dont even know what that means why would you say that? This book is all about self-love and not in the masturbatory sense, although thats cool too. The main goal here is to do you, and do you really well; to love and worship every single glorious part of yourself. Its about time to treat yo self with cleansing foods that reclaim your prime! Youre (hopefully) a semi-aware, gorgeous human who understands that what you put inside your body ( wink wink ) affects your overall well-being.
So why eat shitty foods? Maybe you feel weirded out and intimidated by cleansing out, but RE-LAX. Regardless of your body type (probably hot, I just know it), experience and acknowledge, theres something in here for YOU. So start yer juicers, cause the journey to self love begins right here, right now. GETTIN DOWN & DIRTY WITH CLEANSING A food cleanse is all about detoxifying your hot bod of shit thats caked on your insides, collected over years and years of nutritional neglect. Not quite literally, but still a similarly disgusting mental picture. Im totally open-minded about the things you might want inside of you, but toxins just arent cutethey prevent your body from operating at full capacity.
Try as it might, your body cant rid itself completely of present toxins when there are new loads constantly arriving. While your wondrous body already does a pretty good job of eliminating a lot of toxins on its own, the purpose of a cleanse is to give it a goddamn break. The recipes in this book are meant to kickstart the detoxifying process, not replace it altogether. These recipes are rich with nutrients and enzymes that are easily digestible and quickly absorbed by your body, allowing your cells to release toxins via your skin, lungs, kidney and other awesome organs. Easy digestibility is a big deal since digestion takes up most of your bodys energyso rather than having to digest, your bod can get to work detoxifying and making you a sexier human. TOXINS 101 Although toxins may seem like a mysterious buzzword, theyre ubiquitous nowadays.
Everything from food, pollution, alcohol, drugs and even negative emotions can bring you down and flood your body with disease-causing toxins. Like most products that are detrimental to your body, toxins arent labeled with a WARNING: THIS SHITS GROSS FOR YOU sticker. Most of the body products we use contain toxins. Processed foods contain toxins. Even a stressful workday is toxic. In fact, everything is toxic on some level.
