About the Authors

Russ McKendrick is an experienced solutions architect who has been working in IT and related industries for the better part of 25 years. During his career, he has had varied responsibilities in many different sectors, ranging from looking after an entire IT infrastructure to providing first-line, second-line, and senior support in both client-facing and internal teams for small and large organizations.

Russ works almost exclusively with Linux, using open source systems and tools across both dedicated hardware and virtual machines hosted in public and private clouds at Node4 Limited, where he heads up the Open Source Solutions team.

In his spare time, he has written four books on Docker: Monitoring Docker, Extending Docker, and Docker Bootcamp, which are all available now from Packt, as well as contributing to Monitoring and Management With Docker and Containers, which was published by The New Stack.

He also buys way too many vinyl records.

I would like to thank my family and friends for their support and being so understanding about all of the time I have spent in front of the computer, writing. I would also like to thank my colleagues at Node4 and also our customers for their kind words of support and encouragement throughout the writing process.

Scott Gallagher has been fascinated with technology since he played Oregon Trail in elementary school. His love for it continued through middle school as he worked on more Apple IIe computers. In high school, he learned how to build computers and program in BASIC. His college years were all about server technologies such as Novell, Microsoft, and Red Hat. After college, he continued to work on Novell, all the while maintaining an interest in all technologies. He then moved on to manage Microsoft environments and, eventually, what he was most passionate about: Linux environments. Now, his focus is on Docker and cloud environments.

I would like to thank my family for their support not only while I worked on this book, but throughout my life and career. A special thank you goes to my wife, who is my soul mate, the love of my life, the most important person in my life, and the reason I push myself to be the best I can be each day. I would also like to thank my kids, who are the most amazing thing in this world; I truly am blessed to be able to watch them grow each day. And lastly, I want to thank my parents, who helped me become the person I am today.
About the Reviewers

Srdjan Grubor is a software engineer who has worked on projects small and big, spanning in complexity from a single-line script to two complete Linux distributions. Nowadays, among other things, he is developing a distributed PaaS system for Endless OS, based on Docker, that will provide people in remote places the full power of the internet through knowledge aggregation and asynchronous caching. He enjoys breaking things just to see how they work--tinkering and solving challenging problems. He believes that there is always room for philanthropy in technology.

Christopher Janietz is what is nowadays is called a DevOp, combining practices from the world of development and IT operations. He works for MediaMarktSaturn, Europes largest consumer electronics retailer. Furthermore, he is a content creator for LinkedIn Germany, where he provides video training for programming as well as infrastructure automation. In his spare time, he likes to cram science papers and learn about new technologies every day.

I personally would like to thank my colleagues and friends Andreas Gero and Emanuel Kechter, two well-respected masters in the Docker universe.
