How To Use This Book
This book is separated into three weeks, and each week builds on the previous one. The first week is a refresher for the background information you need for the second and third weeks. Week 2 is a complete guide to programming ADO, from start to finish, and Week 3 is a complete guide to ADC.
The three weeks of lessons have been divided into chapters that we believe can reasonably be covered in a day. However, we realize everyone is different, and you might be able to cover more than we had planned. If you feel you can do more, go for it! But don't become complacent. Try to work through the exercises even if you think you're ready to move on. At the same time, some chapters might challenge you, so don't lose heart. Just work at your own pace and try to get a thorough understanding of the subject material. Work through the exercises and use them to reinforce the material. The topics are presented in a progressive manner, designed to teach you things you don't know by building on those things you do know. We've used teaching methods that have proved successful in the past: first describing and explaining a concept, then demonstrating it in an easy-to-follow example, and finally discussing the results of applying that concept.
Who Should Read This Book?
If you're planning a Web site that includes database information, this book gives you a quick, easy, and inexpensive solution. An added bonus is that the technologies can easily be extended; you can add to the choices offered in this book to create the Web page you want.
