The Author

Charles Hodgkins earliest adventures in San Francisco centred around zooming up and down the glass elevators inside the Hyatt Regency as a young boy; he was not a hotel guest at the time. Since then, the lifelong Bay Area resident has poured wine (for visitors) at Napa Valley wineries as a teen employee, stumbled through university graduation at Berkeleys Greek Theatre, looked on from section 305 as the Giants won the National League championship, gotten married at Stern Grove, hiked 20 miles from Stinson Beach to San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge, and devoured burritos at most every taqueria in San Francisco. He enjoys a juicy Fuji apple on a walk around his hilly Glen Park neighbourhood.

Acknowledgements

Charles Hodgkins thanks Becca Hallett for her sharp editorial acumen and delightful bonhomie from eight hours ahead; James Macdonald and Ed Wright for their continually stellar cartographic work; Aude Vauconsant and her sharp photographers for saying 40,000 or so words with pictures; and Mani Ramaswamy for the opportunity to continue a project so close to my bones. Thanks also to friends who chimed in with suggestions and accompanied me on adventures to such exotic realms as Sausalito,Oakland and the Marina (or just to a taqueria); Andrew, Gregory, and Jeff for getting me into this mess in the first place; and Chenery Street for being a real nice place to update a guidebook

Help us update

Weve gone to a lot of effort to ensure that the second edition of the Pocket Rough Guide San Francisco is accurate and up-to-date. However, things change places get discovered, opening hours are notoriously fickle, restaurants and rooms raise prices or lower standards. If you feel weve got it wrong or left something out, wed like to know, and if you can remember the address, the price, the hours, the phone number, so much the better.

Please send your comments with the subject line Pocket Rough Guide San Francisco Update to Picture 3 . Well credit all contributions and send a copy of the next edition (or any other Rough Guide if you prefer) for the very best emails.
