About a year before this book went to press when I was in the thick of - photo 6

About a year before this book went to press, when I was in the thick of preparing the manuscript, my good friend had a baby early on a Tuesday morning. As if seized by an uncontrollable force, I closed my laptop and hunted down my trusted cone of baby-friendly yarn. I began crocheting. I had to. I had no choice; the mysterious force made me do it. Several hours later I had a lovely round lace blanket just big enough to wrap her tiny body. At least, it would be just big enough to wrap her tiny body for about three weeks before she would outgrow it. So I told myselfand wee Olivias somewhat baffled but humoring parentsthat she could use it as a travel blanket when shes a toddler, since its small enough that it wont drag on the ground.

This book is full of projects for just such a special occasion and for the more mundane occasions we must conjure when were compelled to crochet for the people we love. Some of the most talented crochet designers contributed their take on a most welcome gift, be it for a specific occasion like a wedding or housewarming, or just because. Ranging from one-skein whimsies in luxurious yarns to garments, youll have many opportunities to keep your hands and mind happy while creating something to show how much you love someone. Whether an intricate project or a quick, last-minute one, no matter how far in advance youre planning, youll find the perfect gift in these pages.
