A Note

From True Crime Seven

Hi there!

Thank you so much for picking up our book! Before you continue your exploration into the dark world of killers, we wanted to take a quick moment to explain the style of our books.

Our goal is to simply explore and tell the stories of various killers in the world: from unknown murderers to infamous serial killers. Our books are designed to be short and inclusive; we want to tell a true story that anyone can read regardless of their reading level. That is why you wont see too many fancy words or complicated sentence structures in our books.

Unlike the typical cut and dry style of true crime books, we try to keep our narratives easy to follow while incorporating fiction style storytelling. As to research materials, we often find ourselves with too little or too much. So, we always try to include what helps further the story.

We want to acknowledge that, much like history, true crime is a subject that can often be interpreted differently. Depending on the topic and your upbringing, you might agree or disagree with how our authors presented a story. We understand disagreements are inevitable. That is why we added this note, so hopefully, it can help you better understand our position and goal.

Lastly, True Crime Seven has worked with many writers, and each has their own storytelling style. If you find one that you particularly like, you can learn more about them and check out more of their work at the About True Crime Seven Books section in this book.

Now without further ado, let the exploration to the dark begin!

Introduction

The genre of true crime has become extremely popular. There are so many reasons for this interest. This book alone could not possibly provide space to name them all.

Idle curiosity, such as that causing people to slow down and rubberneck at the sight of a traffic accident, is one. A desire to understand the motive behind violent attacks, with an eye toward preventing future similar crimes, is yet another.

Whatever your reason for picking up this book in particular, we hope you will find something here you have never heard before. We started out with the idea of a writing a serial killer trivia book, and as it evolved, we added more categories.

As fans of the genre ourselves, we wrote the book that we, as fans, would want to read. The contents are primarily about serial murders and serial murderers, but there is also material about crimes and punishment, the criminal justice system, as well as some psychosocial material.

Authors Note

Serial killersthose who study them, write about them, track them down, and those dedicated to obtaining justice for the victims and their loved oneshave intrigued and fascinated many, quickly becoming among the most popular genre of books, blogs, television shows, and podcasts.

My co-author and I have dedicated much of our time to the study of the criminal mind and serial murder, historically and present day, the repercussions of serial murder, and how it has shaped what we think and feel. There wouldnt be such a huge market for true crime if it werent in high demand.

Psychosocial development, what we consider to be normal and where it seems to veer off course, is fascinating. What we want to know is: what happened, and could it have been prevented? We hope to dispel the notion some are born evil.

Using the word evil is viewed by many as unscientific and based on the monotheist religions. Fair enough. Evil is used here in the abstract sensean act so foreign to the masses as to make it practically unimaginable.

Having many questions ourselves regarding serial killers and, more specifically, violent serial offenders with personality disorders, weve amassed an enormous amount of research material. It is apparent we are not alone in our curiosity and interest.

We recently had the privilege to serve as consultants for an upcoming episode of Reelz Channels popular true crime series Worlds Most Evil about Doug Clark and Carol Bundy. (Hello, Liz and Imy!) Even a visit to the doctor or convenience store often results in an informal Q&A of sorts. People always have lots of questions. With this book, we hope to answer questions youve always wanted to ask.

A note about the usage of terms in this text: we try very hard to use terms and phrases accurately and respectfully, with the understanding that definitions and accepted terminology are constantly changing and evolving.

We have cross-referenced facts and cited sources. Opinions expressed by the authors were formed by facts, figures, and statistics available to the public and included in this text.

We hope you enjoy this book and thank everyone for their support.

When was forensics as we know it today first used in a murder investigation - photo 3

When was forensics (as we know it today) first used in a murder investigation?

Forensics has become a sort of blanket term used to describe many aspects of scientific and legal investigations. The ancient Egyptians used a rudimentary form of forensic pathology. During the mummification process, they removed and observed internal organs, looking for any defect or sign of foul play.

The first recorded autopsy was performed following the legendary assassination of Julius Caesar. During that time, it was observed he had been stabbed 23 times, with the fatal wound piercing his heart. Doctors and scientists in the centuries to follow made great strides in the study of forensics.
