My worst villains, such as Peter Leech, Antony Harding and Billy Leech (from Remorseless, Mutilated and Gaslighting respectively) receive special attention but theres plenty more about my other characters, including comments regarding my sources of inspiration, along with deleted scenes and more besides.

My aim in creating this companion publication is to give you, the avid reader, food for thought. Hopefully, some of the information below will spring to mind when you read thrillers featuring psychopathic killers, whether my dark tales or those of other crime writers.

Although some of the bonus content included within these pages has previously appeared on my websites, most of it in a password protected area with restricted access, it seems that the majority of readers much prefer ebook format to browsing an internet site.

This companion guide to The Remorseless Trilogy is the result: I have edited and expanded much of that existing content and compiled it into this publication for your convenience and enjoyment.

Ive combined that newly expanded website content with the comments that Ive previously published in the authors notes in the backmatter of the Remorseless novels, and also included some very personal observations about specific life experiences I believe have influenced my writing.

These are things I am sharing with my readers for the first time, with descriptions of several harrowing events that occurred decades ago. These include two devastating bereavements I suffered, the first as a teenager and the other as a young parent.

I had to undertake some serious soul-searching before deciding to publish my conclusions about these events in this special volume, but I am hoping you might be intrigued to read my thoughts on how these personal experiences have affected my writing.

In early January 2020, I met with my Readers Group Member, Lorraine Goldsmith, after I learnt she was on vacation in Thailand near my home in Koh Samui. I will admit, I felt like some sort of minor league TV star while signing a copy of Mutilated for her as I rarely get to meet my readers!

More to the point, both Lorraine and her husband, Adam, seemed genuinely fascinated to learn about my approach to writing, despite Adam having no interest in the sort of thrillers I pen as he prefers military history and sports biographies.

All three of us chatted over our Starbucks coffee for well over an hour on their final day on this idyllic tourist island, and that brief encounter prompted me to complete this special companion publication, something I started long ago but have been putting off completing for years.

My procrastination and vacillation came about because I wasnt sure how well-received such a publication would be. After meeting the Goldsmiths and sensing their enthusiasm for more, I decided to press on and get this new companion guide out to my readers as quickly as I could.
