In the summer of 2006, almost two and a half years after Doonesbury character B.D. was wounded in Iraq, Garry Trudeau asked me what I thought about adding a military blog to our 11-year-old Doonesbury.com Web site. By that point the milblog phenomenon was well under way, with several thousand already on the Web, but there was the sense that the readership was largely limited to family, friends, and a few fellow bloggers. It seemed like we might be able to help serve as a link to a more general audienceto people without a direct personal connection to anyone deployedand thereby help focus public awareness on our troops.
