In March of 2009, Doonesburys intrepid journalist Roland Burton Hedley, III, opened a Twitter account and began to tweet. A lot. Four weeks later, a sampling of his 140-character missives was published in The New Yorker to great acclaim, and his posts were featured in a one-on-one tweet-off in the Columbia Journalism Review. Rushed into print, this groundbreaking volume is the first book-length Twitter collection by a single author. With dozens of Doonesbury strips and over 500 tweets, it presents the best of Hedleys work frontline micro-blogging from the self-anointed dean of Washington journotwits.

Eight months into this project, author G.B. Trudeau can confirm that Twitter is a colossal sinkhole of time, but is gratified that he has found a way to monetize Rolands inane postings. (Follow Roland_Hedley.) When not writing comedy haiku on Twitter, Trudeau writes and draws the Pulitzer-prize-winning comic strip Doonesbury for 1100 newspapers worldwide, and lovingly curates his web presence at Doonesbury.com. He also hosts a milblog called The Sandbox.

Acknowledgments
After my tweet coverage of Obamas trip to the G-20 Summit was published in The New Yorker last spring, a great clamor arose for a more comprehensive collection of my work on the Twitter. A book seemed advisable, indeed unavoidable, given the terms of my latest divorce settlement, so I should begin these acknowledgments by noting how deeply indebted I am to my second wife. I would also like to thank my longtime tweet feed producer, Lyn, but since she is always one wisecrack away from being sent back to Hooters, where I discovered her, I feel I must decline. She played no meaningful role in the successful completion of this project, indeed, impeded it with her frosty demeanor toward the author while steadfastly maintaining a mocking availability to co-workers other than him. The author would also like to withhold appreciation from his producers at Fox News, without whose help this book was still possibleand very likely improved.

Their contributions to every aspect of this endeavorfrom researching to reporting to copyeditingwere negligible. And because Rupert Murdoch, my boss of bosses, had smaller fish to fry, he, too, joins the ranks of those I need not thank. Finally, no list of acknowledgments would be complete without shout-outs to White House colleagues Jake Tapper, Terry Moran, and Ed Henry, so regrettably, this list must remain incomplete. As they were of no assistance whatsoever, the author is most grateful not to be in their debt. Roland Hedley
