Thats because language is not about perfectgrammar, that is for academics in their ivory towers. Language is about communication and if youcan speak a language in such a manner that others can understandyou, then you have succeeded -regardless of how flawed your grammarmight be. This ebook is NOT about perfect grammar, itis about teaching you enough words and enough about the language sothat you can put simple sentences together and be understood regardless of verb tense and whether you have the correct noungender. This ebook is about giving you theconfidence to open your mouth in another language and have areasonable chance of being understood.

It is about learning thebasics about another language; it is not about making you agrammatically perfect scholar. Follow the instructions in this ebook andpractice practice as often as you can, and listen to othersspeaking this language. Watch movies online in your new language,listen to online news programs, and involve yourself in onlineforums. Wherever you can, whenever you can, practice, because it isonly through frequent practice that you will begin to mold thesimple basics you have learnt in this ebook. That is how you first learnt English byhearing others speaking the language. Through repetition you slowlypicked the language up.

We dont learn grammar when we are threeyears old, we learn words! To start with, we make it easy for you; wejust want you to learn words, the most common words in the languageyou are trying to learn. Why? Because in most languages the overwhelmingmajority of people only use 1000-2000 words regularly. It is our experience that if you have totalrecall of somewhere around 500-1000 words in a language, and putthat together into a simple and basic sentence structure, you willbe able to understand, and be understood.

It is as simple as that. Think about it. If a foreigner comes up to you and says, Ilike eat fish, can you understand him correctly? Yes, of course you can. Its not correct grammar, but he hascommunicated successfully. We believe in communication. We dont believe in grammar.

We believe in your gaining confidence asquickly as possible. So here is our very simple, but effective,method. And when you have remembered some simplewords, then we need to put them together into simple sentencestructures. So here is our very simple, but effective,method. Before we start learning some common Gaelic words, lets justlook at the Gaelic vocabulary. The Gaelic alphabet is similar to the Englishalphabet although letters can have a slightly difference emphasisor sound.

On the left is the Gaelic letter. In themiddle is its approximate English sound (depending on which part ofthe English speaking world you come from). a------a b------be c------ce d------de e------e f------eif g------ge h------heis i------i l------ell m------eim n------ein o------o p------pe r------ear s------eas t------te u------u The English letters, j, k, v, x, y or z areused in words that have been borrowed from other languages but arenot native to Gaelic. We must also consider the elongated forms ofvowels. The accent on each letter is called a 'fada'. We refer to'' as 'o fada' (pronounced 'aw' as in 'paw') (pronounced 'ay' as in 'bay') (pronounced 'ee' as in 'wee') (pronounced oh as in 'no') (pronounced 'oo' as in 'too') Most Gaelic letters are pronounced similar totheir English counterparts but there are some combinations thatchange.

There is no letter w in Gaelic, but the soundoccurs when combinations of consonants, bh and mh occur. So an-mhaith is pronounced an-wah.An-mhaith means very good. Your First 35 Gaelic Words. Learn, off by heart, the top 35 entries inthe list below, that is only 5 words per day. Read them, pronounce them, put them into reallife and write them down. Learn them until you are confident that youhave remembered them.

Each day learn 5 words. The next day test yourself. Do this by covering up the English word andreading the other column word. If you know what it is, then youhave remembered it. Every day, add the previous days words toyour test. If, at the end of the week, you know 30 ofthe 35 words off by heart, thats a great start.
