W hile murder and sudden vanishing of people are horrific enough prospects in their own right, the uncertainty found in some cases is the ultimate spice in that horror. As if gruesome crime scenes are not enough, the peculiar and inexplicable circumstances surrounding some murders can terrify us on a whole new level and truly boggle the mind.
Unexplained disappearances can be just as unsettling, as some of them can evade logic and pose countless questions without leaving a shred of evidence as to what may have transpired.
The thought of a person walking around one day and going about their chores while laughing, living and breathing, only to vanish on the next without any trace is never pleasant to think about. As if the very soil opened up and devoured them, individuals from all walks of life have gone missing on many occasions, never to be heard from again.
On the other hand, some of the most strikingly unfortunate souls have had unthinkable cruelty inflicted upon them for the whole world to see, but their assailants were never brought to justice. To think that so many perpetrators of such foul deeds never saw their day in court and instead continued to walk the Earth at will can be highly discouraging.
Such cases remain open for decades without ever reaching any closure. All the while, the peculiarities surrounding them provide fertile grounds for endless speculation. The theories and suppositions that thus arise are rarely pretty because these stories have a way of stimulating the darkest corners of our minds.
You too, dear reader, will feel how the human mind strays off into horror when examining the details of the stories we are about to tell, as all of them concern documented, real-world events. The lack of conclusive answers in these murders and vanishings is bound to force your mind into filling the gaps on your own, and you will find that they will be filled with unsettling possibilities.
Of course, the very fact that these events have indeed occurred gives additional weight to the tales, as no horror story is ever quite like the real thing. Popular culture and the entertainment industry have been teeming with tales of horror and mystery for ages, but the need for such material greatly diminishes once you see that the world itself has no shortage of perplexing and terrifying stories to tell.
Beware that some of the stories you are about to read are riddled with disturbing, violent details. Others may not be as graphic, but they will still have an eerie aura surrounding them. Either way, all of the stories are based on real accounts and there will be no fiction to be found. With that in mind, let us delve into the horror headfirst.
U nsolved crimes are mysteries that pose all kinds of questions of their own, but sometimes, a sudden, grisly event can open up entirely new vistas of mystique. Details of the lives of those involved that were never known or questioned prior to the dreadful circumstances can suddenly come into the light and complicate things much further. That which appears as nothing more than murder at first can thus yank the shroud right off the secrets that those involved have successfully kept until that point.
It appears that the gruesome and mysterious demise of the Robisons on June 25, 1968, was one such case, as it continues to perplex and mystify to this day. The Robisons were a well-to-do family from the suburbs of Detroit, comprising Richard Robison, his wife Shirley and their four children. The children were named Gary, Randy, Susan and Richie, and they were aged sixteen, twelve, seven and nineteen respectively. During that fateful summer, the Robison family was vacationing in a cottage near Good Hart, at Lake Michigan.
