Snails have soft, slimy
bodies.
They have hard, spiral
shells.
This snail has two
sets of feelers to
help it find its way.
A snails head is at one
end of its body.
One long foot is under its
shell.
A snail can hide inside its
shell.
Snail shells come in
many shapes and sizes.
Then it is safe from danger.
Where to Find Snails
Most snails live in moist
places.
They will die if their bodies
dry out.
Many snails live in wet dirt
and leaves.
Other snails live in water.
Snails can live in seas,
ponds, or streams.
Food
Most snails eat plants and
algae.
Other snails feed on small
animals.
A snail scrapes up food
with tiny teeth.
The food snails eat can
be dead or alive.
The teeth are on its tongue.
What Snails Do
Snails make slime.
Slime keeps snails moist.
Slime helps a snail move
forward on its foot.
Snails also use slime to
stick to things like glue.
Follow the slime trail to
catch up to the snail!
